dang your amazing with oil! It seems like it'd be hard to do, but as I go on in your gallery the works get more impressive. Especially with oil!

Thank you Soo much!
As for the references, there were Soo many. In most cases I used several, but in the end I always dropped the references and came up with my own version, especially with the color schemes

Oh, my. That reminds me of Puresthera. My friend Lexus. You commented on here picture so..um well yeah. She's the same way. Finds a reference picture, but then doesn't even use it, but always turns up better than it would have been. geez, srry that's random. But it's so cool you can do that. I, on the otherhand, NEED the reference pic, and will stare it down to every detail, otherwise I would cry. -Anway, amazing work, and to have done it freehand free-eyed, amazing.

its all good!! its nice to know that there are others that do the same and that its not uncommon to do. My art teacher always reprimanded me for using to many references and then deciding on my own. In the end all he would tell me is paint; it doesn't matter if you make a mistake, you can always paint over it. Actually the blue rose was one of the few pieces i had zero help with and left to my own devices (it took me a while to complete it)
and i totally get what you mean, at the beginning i always wanted my paintings
to be exactly like the reference ( and they never were) so i gave up and found a new solution!
P.S if youd like to see my references for any particular piece just ask! (im sure i have them somewhere!!)
Thanx again for taking the time to look and comment and for saying that they look amazing!!

skin tones are tricky indeed... you have to make one batch, enough to last you the whole painting because chances of making the same color twice are slim... however that doesn't really happen (making enough of what you need that is)
i guess for that the solution would be to make a lot of different shades of the same skin tone. that way you can incorporate them without having the exact same one . try to make them only slightly different in tone .
as for my solution to the issue of having it look like the picture... well its simple, once i have a basic idea of what the color scheme is, i simply go with the flow and what feels right. The more i stare at the original, the more i feel like mine has mistakes (which it probably does).
So in conclusion, look at your reference to get the main idea, shapes/dimensions and color and then work with it as is. At least that's what i started doing.

nice advice! That skin tone idea sounds impossible though, how would I have enough room for all those shades on a surface? But I like that idea. Go with the flow. Good idea. I'm scared my perfectionism wouldn't allow that, but I want to try. Thanks for the insight!
