Subtle courtesy between gentlemen. Islamic Kingdom of Murcia year 1089 During the Middle Ages, not everything was fighting between the Muslim and Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula. Intense diplomatic relations and embassies were frequently exchanged. During the first and failed Muslim siege of the Aledo fortress in 1089 (which had been taken by the Castilians under the command of Alvar Fañez in 1086), the emir of Murcia Ibn Rashiq, came to support the Castilian-Leonese in front of the Almohad caliph Ibn Tasufin and the emir al-Mu'tamid of Seville, as he feared that they would dethrone him. Since the time of Almanzor, the kingdom of Murcia was famous for its hospitality and generosity. In the illustration we see that during these negotiations, to entertain Rodrigo, the Castilian ambassador, the Emir of Murcia has surprised him (pleasantly) by having a sensual and beautiful practically naked slave chained at the foot of his bed … But courtesy is much more subtle than it seems. They both know that he is expected to savagely abuse the charms of the defenseless slave and to rape joyfully and savagely her body... If he wants, he can insult and beat her at his whim, taking complete revenge on her disdain, humiliating her until she just be a trembling, pleading animal, surrendered to her feet (and then perhaps she will discover that she has now fallen madly in love). Durante la edad media no todo fueron luchas entre los reinos musulmanes y cristianos de la península ibérica. Intensas relaciones diplomáticas y embajadas se intercambiaban frecuentemente. Durante el primer y fallido asedio musulmán de la fortaleza Aledoen el año 1089 (que había sido tomada por los castellanos al mando de Alvar Fañez en 1086), el emir de Murcia Ibn Rashiq, llegó apoyar a los castellanos-leoneses frente al califa almohada Ibn Tasufin y al emir al-Mu'tamid de Sevilla, pues temía que estos le destronasen.

Desde la época de Almanzor, el reino de Murcia era famoso por su hospitalidad y generosidad. En la ilustración vemos que durante esas negociaciones, para agasajar a Rodrigo el embajador castellano, el emir de Murcia le ha sorprendido (gratamente) disponiendo encadenada a los pies de su lecho a una sensual y bella esclava prácticamente desnuda…

Pero la cortesía es mucho más sutil de lo que parece. La joven esclava era antes una noble cristiana del Reino de León, completamente engreída y orgullosa, de la que Rodrigo había estado profundamente enamorado y que le había rechazado pública y cruelmente (dejándolo con el corazón destrozado), por no ser suficientemente rico y noble. Enterado de esta famosa y romántica historia, el emir de Murcia decidió sacar partido de la situación y ordenó hacer una incursión para secuestrar a la orgullosa dama, que ahora, esclavizada y encadenada, será utilizada para ganarse el favor del embajador castellano.

Perfumada, maquillada y enjoyada (pero encadenada como un animal), la que fuera una altiva y orgullosa dama es ahora un simple objeto de placer, utilizado para agradar a un invitado. Por supuesto, para el afortunado embajador, una vez deshonrada, ella se ha convertido ahora en una despreciable esclava, de la que puede disponer con absoluta libertad y sin ningún freno. Los dos saben que se espera de él que abuse salvajemente de los encantos de la indefensa esclava y que viole gozosa y salvajemente su cuerpo… Si quiere, el puede insultarla y golpearla a su capricho, tomando completa venganza de sus desdenes, humillándola hasta que solo sea un animal tembloroso y suplicante, rendido a sus pies (y entonces tal vez ella descubra que ahora se ha enamorado perdidamente). Sin duda está sera una noche larga, intensa y muy apasionada...
