The largest extant member of Eumarquinidae, the red-throated marquinhets stands at around 1.2m high, taller than an Emperor penguin, though not quite as heavy, lacking the thick blubber layers required to survive the Antarctic.
These birds have enormous heads and beaks in comparison to their body, which combined with their upright posture and the large muscles required to power their wings while swimming, makes them rather top-heavy and unstable on land.
