TIE Interceptor.

The TIE/In was built to equal the speed and maneuverability of the the A-Wing, but using the same reactor and engines as the standard TIE/Ln Fighter. But how do you get the additional power? By taking the safeties off.

The TIE reactor and engines are capable of producing insane amounts of power but are limited (de-rated) to provide operational reliability; that is reactor meltdown and catastrophic failure. With the Interceptor, the reactor and engines have the limiters turned off and they operate at or near their design limits. This produces the power for the additional weapons and engine output needed to match the A-Wing but it means a corresponding reduction in range and endurance compared to the standard TIE/Ln.
