Description Together with 'Fina the Aviacean' and 'Aussie the Pyroopial', Dyna is another of the main monster characters in my forthcoming comic project. I was hoping to have the comic finished this year but that may have been an overly ambitious goal. I suppose I've generally been held up by needing to finalise/fine tune the character designs for this project and at the same time I'm actually working on character designs for other projects completely unrelated to this one.

For the moment at least I think it feels right to put up Dyna's design sheets - if nothing else doing so gives me free reign to upload any finished art of her at a later date.

Looking at Dyna here I can see a lot of the characters/design influences that contributed to her design. Most namely: the Pokemon Ampharos and Flygon, Mega Man, Blast Hornet (from the Mega Man X series) and Cyborg (from Teen Titans GO!). Even recognising these design contributions it's also clear to see that Dyna is a fully realised original character able to stand apart from these influences.

I suppose you could say that the Pokemon 'Beedrill' played a part in Dyna's design but truthfully Blast Hornet was more of an influence - especially with Dyna's considerably cumbersome tail-end. There may very well be a lot of rear-end related humour in Dyna's future.

Though Dyna's elemental attribute is electricity, she's actually more of an airhead than Fina - though truthfully it may be that she has as naive/innocent an outlook on the world that can be expected of any young artificial intelligence.

However, it's important to note that Dyna is not an artificial construct - she was actually born 'naturally' (for her species) - It's just that I'm trying to come to a resolution of how biomechanical beings would evolve/reproduce/be born in a world that also hosts fully organic beings, though it's not really such a strange proposal when you consider how different insects are to mammals.

Questions like these will probably (eventually) end up being explored/explained in the comic pages - albeit in a light-hearted, humorous way.

I love her design. There's something about mecha characters having those simple stem-like legs that I really like. A design I think only works on mecha or even insect characters.

Great job on the design!

Dyna's design is one of extremes - on the one hand she has bulky, Popeye-like forearms - and on the other foot she has very thin, blade-like forelegs. In the past I would have been uncomfortable with having a changeover of such extreme features within the same design, but I've come a long way as a character designer and I know now how to properly balance a character's design and bring focus toward their most important features.

I'm glad you like the design - I hope to complete and upload a 'finished artwork' piece of her sometime.

I agree. Even with a simple detail like the bulky forearms being taken out, and replaced with more skinnier arms, the rest of the body probably wouldn't match with the big abdomen behind her. Everything's gotta be shaped up and placed in just the right areas so it looks pleasing to the eyes. And then of course there's also colour which is just as important. You definitely do know how to make great character designs. Also looking forward for more drawings of Dyna!

Huh, no wonder this character makes me think of an Ampharos. Other than that, this is very good.

Thanks!

Her head shape and yellow colour is definitely reminiscent of Ampharos - also there are the neck rings, but the rest of her anatomy and her general body shape is completely different.
