Description Pendant made from a carved deer antler base and a glass taxidermy lynx eye. This is the same size as Antler Eye Pendant 2, which uses an agate bead instead of a glass eye, and much smaller than Dragon Eye 3, which uses a larger glass eye of the same design. See [link]

There is a cord tunnel at the top back that arches over the eye, and is open in the middle so the cord can be put in easily despite the arch. The eye is sealed in with a slurry of clear glue and transparent glass microbeads, so it transmits light shining on it from the back. Hand rubbed wax finish.

That is a taxidermy eye. Try a Google search for "taxidermy eyes" and you will find some on-line sites. I got that particular eye (and a couple of others) from a bead dealer at an annual bead fair, and I got the wolf eye in "Raveneye" at a garage sale, so I knew exactly what I was getting. I'd buy a bunch of eyes on-line if I could be sure of getting that level of quality, but I have seen a lot of badly done taxidermy eyes. At some point, I may just get a few eyes from several dealers to find out what their quality is.

i did the google search yesterday - you would be surprised as to how impossible it is to filter through the crap it has to offer - i gave up after an hour i found one sweet eye on e-bay but it was in England and 20 pounds ouch!

Well, I wouldn't be awfully surprised; Google-spamming is getting worse and worse. And twenty pounds is way overpriced (like too much stuff on eBay is). But I waded through a bunch of sites, and it looks like the eye in "Antler Eye Pendant 3" is a lynx eye. So if I were going to try buying some samples, I'd start with Van Dykes, the big U.S. supplier: [link] And I found another that looks possible: [link]

dear Don i finally went with the search that included taxidermy and not eye and i succeeded. went on McKenzie site and bought an 8 dollar pair i loved and they sent me invoice when they shipped where shipping was 12 dollars - i was pissed but at least i will have a nice pair of eyeballs so thanks a lot for your hleptp - you are such a fantastic artist - i dig you

And thank you; I am definitely checking out the McKenzie site. I suspect you could have had several pairs shipped for that price; that's often a problem with big companies doing small orders. Anyway, I'm interested in seeing what you do with those eyes.

ah.. hope you're not mad but i did find a dead deer ten years ago in the mountains and ripped his antlers off and so after seeing your art i wanted to try myself in using them, so, mine should look somewhat less awesome than yours

I'm not sure what you think I might be mad about, but I'm not. Remember the warning in my essay about not breathing the antler dust (and the other advice there, too), and put up pictures of what you make; and keep making things and you will be headed for awesomeness.

What a creative visionary! I never would have thought to combine the two!

I wish I could blame it all on Ramon Llull, who invented the art of combination (or got it from the Arabs, some say), but it was just a fortunate thought.

Great piece, Don! I like the natural shape of the 'eyelid' opening; makes it all the more spooky.

Thank you.

I'm experimenting with the eye pendant designs. There will be more.

i dont like the idea of buying things from random people online but if i ever saw that in a store or at a street festival i would buy it immediately, i love how it looks your art is amazing

I do most of my sales in person, in convention dealer rooms or at festivals. A lot of my work's appeal is how it looks from different angles, how it feels in the hand, and so on. I got on deviantART so when people asked what I do, I could give them a URL, and only started selling occasional items because people asked if they could buy them. It still feels a bit strange....
