No, it's an actual Japanese kimono. It's kind of the equivalent of an undergarment. It would go underneath a nice kimono, and only the collar would show. Plain white kimono are hard to find, because for the most part, they're only worn by deceased individuals at funerals. If you keep an eye out on ebay, someone will occasionally pop up selling one.
