Although I haven't played Makai Kingdom as much
as I should have along with getting into it.
It is quite interesting mixing both elements from Disgaea
and Phantom Grave. I have heard of Phantom Brave but I have not
played it.

Someone made a wish on the Sacred Tome to destroy his Netherworld, thinking it was a joke/insult, he destroyed the book, but in doing that he almost destroyed himself, as his fate and the fate of his netherworld became bound to the Sacred Tome. In a last ditch effort to save himself, he bound his soul into the Sacred Tome. His soul was spared, but he lost his body and his Netherworld, and became the Sacred Tome himself. The most powerful Overlord became the most powerful book, but he can't use the book's powers himself. LIFE'S FUNNY LIKE THAT.
