Great effort. You've handled Alnitak rather well.
However, what is it with the pixelation and noise?

The luminance for this shot was 140 min of H-alpha - so I didn't really have to do anything to handle Alnitak. Even shooting at f/3.3 I'd need about twice as much time for this image to be really clean in the shadows - that background in the lower left is extremely faint! Even Robert Gendler's narrowband shot of this region has some background noise - and he had around 10-15 hours at f/5.
The pixelation is primarily JPEG compression. The image is much cleaner at full size as a 16 bit TIF.

Cheers for the heads up.
My version was 4 hours of data, but, captured with a DSLR. I had a field flattener on the instrument I was using, and as a result, had to deal with terrible, terrible reflections. It took eons removing them pixel by pixel, and, as a result, the final image suffered for the worse. Though, to the untrained eye, no-one will notice or mention the areas in question.
I didn't get a chance to have another go at this area this year. I'll try again next year.
I look forward to the day when an SBIG/FLI/SX and their ilk, becomes within my reach.
Regards,
H

Gracias!
This was a big project to put this shot together, but I'm happy with the result.
