Description R.I.P Barrie Ingham - the voice actor of Basil of Baker Street in The Great Mouse Detective . He passed yesterday - January 24th , 2015 after a brief illness just two-and-a-half weeks shy of his 83 birthday. So sad ! I love Basil because his voice and now the voice actor of him has gone away .

Rest in peace Barrie. Your acting on that movie was amazing, you helped create my childhood movie. I wish you the best in the afterlife.
Great pic btw.

Oh nooooooooooo! That's terrible! Poor dear...may he rest in peace. Thank you, Barrie, for bringing all the excitement, heroism, sass and dry wit, and ingenuity to Basil of Baker Street. And thank you for the adventure. We love you...

I still can't believe that he passed away. I just got the news by a friend a few hours ago.

I'm from Germany and only last year I was able to finally watch the English Version of the movie, and I understood why so many people love the English Basil more than his dubbed versions (though I was comparing most of the dubs that I was able to find on youtube and they *did* a great job to make Basil and the others sound like the original English version), and now I read that Barrie Ingham died... at the age of 83!

I slowly start to think that there is some new 'curse' going around in the world of Voice Actors - Chikao Ohtsuka passed away only 1 - 2 weeks ago as well, and he was voicing Fidget in the Japanese dub of Basil.

R.I.P. Barrie, you left us way too soon.

Other than that the Artwork you made is very well done. Barrie might have gone, but to us he will live on.

There's allot of good people passing away as of lately.

Uh, Monty Oum. The dude best known for his work with his fan animations, Dead Fantasy. Well he died the other day also.

WWE's Ultimate Worrier died earlier last year.

and Then there's also Paul Walker, best known for his roles in Fast and the Furious. He died November 30, 2013.

I miss all of them. They were all good people. I suppose there's now more added to the list.

Oh, god... that makes me so sad... The Great Mouse Detective was such a huge part of my childhood, and for several years held the title of my favorite movie. Ugh. It hurts my heart that all my childhood heroes are passing on... I'm in a state of mild shock right now, so forgive the rambling.

Anyway, a beautiful tribute to a beloved character.

R.I.P. Barrie Ingham

UPDATE: I read the article.

This man wasn't only a fantastic voice actor. He was into Shakespeare and Broadway. He was on Doctor Who and Star Trek. He was a teacher who wanted to give of his wealth of knowledge and passion to others.

What struck me more than anything was this passage:

"He was asked to describe what he would do if he had just six months to live.

'Ahhhhh, I would spend half the time with my dear wife, who has been very neglected for all the show biz, and then I’d stand on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company acting out every leading part in the 36 plays and then die … on stage,' he replied."

When I was 14, someone asked me a similar question. My response was almost exactly the same. (Of course, I didn't have a wife, or any significant other, but the latter half was spot-on.) I never knew anyone else wished to leave this world on stage, in front of an audience (preferably at the same moment the character died--for me, if I could pick my moment to go, I'd play all my dream roles, and end as King Richard II, breathing my last breath at the same moment he did. I'd miss the curtain call, of course, but I'd be there in spirit).

I suppose the reason I don't know how to feel about this is that if I'd known anything about this man while he was alive, I would almost certainly be a sobbing, inconsolable mess right now. But I didn't. A person so much after my own heart existed on this earth, and I didn't know it until after he'd left it. I guess, it just kinda puts things in perspective. How many people out there are just like me, but we'll never meet, or even know the other exists?

Ugh, life is weird.

R.I.P. Barrie Ingham, a man who was Basil of Baker Street, but so much more too... I'm glad you had a long, fulfilling life. I'm sorry you didn't get the chance to die as Hamlet or someone. I only wish I'd had the privilege of meeting you before you had to go.

That's a damn shame, this was a great film (should've had a sequel) & I always liked his character, the film was pretty dark but most good disney films back then were and it deserved so much more.

R.I.P Barrie Ingram, another great voice acting talent lost but not forgotten.

I am in as much shock as you & everyone else. I really am. But remember this; Since he lived a long, good life, we must celebrate the life he succeed to have that most have trouble achieving. He is now above the clouds, beneath the sun and with God. May he rest with the Lord. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Thanks for your comment. I really needed to hear that after the shock of this sad news. You're absolutely right. (BTW, just to be clear, I'm not the artist, just another fan saddened by this talented actor's passing. I realized that my comment might be easily misinterpreted without this addendum.)
