Description So I went to see The Hunger Games the other day.

And that beard.

That beard!!!

So I made this. And that's me, who considers all kinds of stubble her arch enemy when it comes to drawing. But that beard is a masterpiece. So I had to.

I think I'll actually read the books now - I haven't been into the whole Hunger Games world until now, but having watched the film, I have to say it was kind of cool.

This is Seneca Crane, brilliantly portrayed by Wes Bentley in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins's novel.

Graphite and watercolour pencils.

Tell me what you think!

Excellent beard pinup! It is rather magnificent, isn't it! And the books... I read through the first one in one night. They don't pull punches.

Yes, this beard is perfection. I'm just starting Catching Fire, I know I love it just as much as The Hunger Games.

This is amazing! I've never been able to work with colors. Graphite, sure. Give me some colored pencils and I'll draw a cool looking fish. XD

Thanks! I totally understand - would you believe I was the one kid who hated colouring books? Well, I did. So that's exactly why I've been challenging myself to draw in colour, recently. You can totally do it, it just takes an awful lot of patience and practice. And you're indeed very skilled with graphite, I love your gallery! Keep it up and thanks again!

Don't compare, never compare: I checked out your drawings - did you know that it takes 10% of talent and 90% of practice to make really good art? Well you clearly have the talent, based of the drawings you uploaded on DevArt. So the only thing I can say is practice practice practice. And thanks so much!

Holy shit, this is the most amazing thing I have ever seen.

Wes Bentley is so friggin' hot it should be illegal, and he is so inspiring in light of his addiction. Really wonderful to see him making a comeback.

Anyway, obsession aside, this piece is fantastic. You nailed his eyes, his facial structure, the way his lip dips down in such a smug "M," and the colors of his outfit. Hell, even his oiled hair is perfect. I would totally buy this as a print. Well done!

Oh, don't worry, I absolutely understand, fangirl on! That's why I made this!

Haha, it's on the top of my Bucketlist to sell a piece of art, so your comment totally made my day. I might actually start selling prints when I have more pieces. Until then, feel free to enjoy this, it's made with love.

Seneca fans unite! I'm glad my comment made your day. You should totally start selling prints of your work! All of it is beautiful and incredibly devised and executed!

I'll add you to my watch list, and when this becomes available as a print, I will definitely buy a copy.

Thanks for drawing him!

Thanks, I'm definitely going to enable prints soon, I think. It's just never occured to me that there would be any demand for it, as I'm technically a hobbyist. But I'm more than flattered. And thanks for the watch! And if you have any requests, feel free to tell me and I'll do it!

Arrowriter In reply to DoraTheBrit [2012-03-29 22:17:07 +0000 UTC]

Good! They are quite excellent, and I've never been into the usual teen obsessions. Unfortunately, I've succumbed for this one. I won't spoil anything for you, but I just want to warn you that Seneca's part in the movie is MUCH larger than the one in the books. He might not be mentioned until book two.

DoraTheBrit In reply to Arrowriter [2012-03-30 06:22:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's fine, I know now that I'm going to read the whole series! I'll always be a Potterhead above all, but I really like the whole universe of the HG. Even though I'd probably be the first BONG in the Arena for sure!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arrowriter In reply to DoraTheBrit [2012-03-30 15:38:07 +0000 UTC]

I would be as well! Yes, the story really is very good. I've always loved reading since I taught myself at the age of six, but I never was into the teen obsessions all over the place. However, this one deserves the attention. I don't know if you're a Roman history and Greek mythology nerd like me, but Suzanne Collins was obviously influenced by those two topics, and the result is pretty dang cool.

DoraTheBrit In reply to Arrowriter [2012-03-31 07:06:20 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! And yes, that's the thing with adaptions, films will never be 100% true to the books, but I don't mind (unless they change something drastically, which absolutely boils my blood, because most people might not take their time to read so they'll get the wrong picture). I always just tend to regard films as a really good and quality illustration to the books. So that I don't get mad at all the things that are shown differently to the books.

By the way, I will soon enable prints, but I'm not sure if it's legal to sell this one, or if DevArt would allow me to at all, as it's fan art, you know. So I would effectively violate copyright if I sold fan art (technically, I could with the permission from the owner haha). So you know, just feel free to use this drawing however you like, I haven't even put a watermark on it, becasue I don't mind, as long as people see it and think it's good. (I'm new here, yes...) But I like the idea of enabling prints of my orginal drawings, so I'll get to drawing more quality art.

Yes! I agree completely! When I read books and the movie is announced, I try so hard not to get my hopes up and just appreciate it for what it is. Fortunately, I thought this movie was excellent. I was driving my brother and stepsister home from the theater, and we were discussing the differences. My stepsister read the first book, and my brother didn't read any of them, but they were begging for spoilers.

Wow, that is so unfortunate. I see people selling Star Wars prints all the time, both uncommissioned and commissioned, so I think you'll be fine. You gave credit to Suzanne Collins in the info didn't you? If you can't sell it, I guess I'll just have to commission you then, because I know for sure commissioned fanart is legal to sell.

DoraTheBrit In reply to Arrowriter [2012-04-01 09:38:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh, wow, I didn't know about that, I thought DevArt takes it very seriously. Well, I'll just try to make it a print and then we'll see! Just got to set up a PayPal account, basically. And yes, if I went with anyone who read the books I would have killed for spoilers immediately after the movie, too.
