A week overdue (due to my crazy busy schedule this week), but thank you all for the birthday wishes last Friday! They were a nice surprise to sign on to in the morning (both here and Facebook). I had a really nice birthday with my family and some friends. My little brother brought me Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast, then two of my friends from my writing group took me out for some lemonade at this really great, all-natural cafe that opened up in town, and for dinner my family took me out for a lobster dinner! And, of course, we came back to the house after that for cake and ice cream, which my other friend joined me for. I got some checks from family to buy some new clothes with (since I barely fit in anything in my wardrobe anymore-- so baggy!), Yu-Gi-Oh! Season One DVD boxed set from my brother (hrngh the nostalgia...), a book of Death Poetry from Lauren (famous quotes/poems about Death), and a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card from my old roommate from Chicago! Overall, it was a quiet and relaxing day.

In some upcoming news, tomorrow my little brother is graduating from high school! It's crazy hard to believe that he'll be starting college in the fall (and I should mention he received a scholarship last week, as well!). It feels like just yesterday he was graduating elementary school and finally taking the bus to school with me in the mornings. He's turned into a really handsome, sweet young man and it's been an overall great pleasure watching him grow up and being there with and for him his whole life. Though will still bicker and fight sometimes, he's my best friend and I couldn't live without him. I'm super proud of him graduating, but I'm also feeling sad that he'll be moving to Syracuse for college. It's funny because I spent 4 years away from home and my brother and never really felt homesick, but I'm feeling if I'm stuck at home where in my head he should be, it's going to be rough. But, I'll find a way to make it through. Congrats on all your success, little brother!

Lots of other stuff coming up in the following months: a book signing for Cat Tails, my trip to the wolf preserve the end of July, and then the end of August, I'm staying with my friend on Long Island for the weekend and seeing Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway (starring Andrew Rannells -- for those who used to watch Yu-Gi-Oh!, he played Noah, Seto and Mokuba Kaiba's stepbrother ) Rannells is extremely talented and I love, love, LOVE his voice, so I can't wait! There's a lot more coming up in the near future, as well, but I'll post about all that as it occurs.

My schedule is getting tighter every week though, I swear. I've got a lot of doctor's appointments coming up-- all this past week I've had blood tests on and off and Tuesday I've got to go up to Oneonta, NY to meet with a specialist. It's nothing serious, thank goodness, but a tad nerve-wracking. I will keep everyone posted if anything gets crazy there.

So, I think that's about it from me. I'm working the 11-hour shift at the shelter today, which I'm not looking forward to, but after I get through the next two weeks, I've got quite a bit of smooth sailing ahead. I'll be updating when I can. Until next time!
