I tried vectoring but I quit not even half way because it drove me crazy that I had to actually switch tools every 20 seconds in illustrator. So I vexeled in photoshop instead XD.

The difference between a vector and a vexel is that when you zoom into a vexel you see pixels but with a vector it's smooth. The difference is clear here [link] .
