very interesting! Any tips for someone wanting to do the same? did you place the solid color and then shade to get the shape you desired?

Ears have very few bones in them so usually they tend to be redder in hue compared to the rest of the face! Thats what I learned the most from
Since I was only dealing with one part of the body and there were no other things to influence it, I just placed the values and colours where i saw fit from reference, and then shaped them how I wanted them to. But I'm sure what you suggested can be used as well.
