Description
This is my replica of the Knight's Claymore from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. BOTW has a variety of gigantic weapons in it, and I knew I wanted to make one to go with my costume for DragonCon 2018. Scaling it with an appropriate mix between BOTW Link's proportions and my own height, the Knight's Claymore clocks in at a whopping 68 inches long.
It is a one-off build, constructed primarily of MDF, PVC sheet, and 3D printed elements. The bulk of the blade and cross guard area are MDF with layered PVC sheet detailing, included laser cut Hylian script. The entire grip and portions of the cross guard are 3D printed PLA parts, and the entire sword is strengthened with a 1/2 inch thick steel rod, which allows it to be hoisted up to any angle without drooping. While it has its fair share of weight, it's actually quite manageable for its size, which was achieved by planning in hollow spaces throughout the interior of the blade and cross guard.
