Description Here is the current Ranger helmet concept. The idea here is to strip away all the campy aspects of the original MMPR team and boil it all down to the basics and rebuild it from there.

This helmet concept incorporates a lot of different elements from my favorite sci-fi. A huge influence to this particular helmet is the design work seen in Halo Reach. I also wanted to incorporate a double visor. The inner visor is clear so you could see the wearer's eyes through it, while the outer visor is a reflective gold material. You would think that my previous statement of the Halo influence is why I went with the gold visor, but it's inspiration actually comes from the gold tinted cockpit canopies of F-16 fighter jets. It maintains the same "mysterious badass" quality that a solid black visor does, but it also adds an air of technology to it.

Anyways, you can see that the dino theme is somewhat maintained, though it has been stripped down in appearance so that the components take on a more utilitarian role. The eyes are now flood lights, for example, and the teeth take on the hexagonal look that the outer skin of a F-22 fighter jet has, or the look of the odd angles around an F-117A's cockpit.

I totally agree with you! However, within the context of my overall military style Rangers concept, I think it fits well enough. Think of it as if over the generations, the Rangers have provided feedback to suit their species-specific design sensibilities. Humans might have a certain technology that they sought to have integrated into the armor design, and that "human aesthetic" was the cosmetic result.

But I will also say, this was never actually finished through completion. I never liked how I did the back side, I thought it needed a color panel back there in some regard. I still like the double visor and the spotlights and the withdrawn Dino-theme, but it needs another design pass or two to really finish it off. Perhaps a little more of a sporty gesture would add enough of that alien aspect back in.

Thanks for the feedback! With the new movie's release, these old concepts are gaining new views!

So how much would it take to purchase a live version of the helmet on the right?

I take it by the floodlight-eyes that you saw the movie.

Lips are the funny part of the helmet.

Love it! Adding the tech element to the helmet made it great!

Thanks! The concept's not quite "there" yet, but this is definitely a huge milestone in the design process. It certainly defines the direction I want to take, but it still requires refining.
