My friends and mine Akatsuki cosplay at AnimeNorth 2007!!My cosplay was Deidara. All of the cloaks worn by my friends were made by me - thats right, 6 Akatsuki cloaks!!
NEVER AGAIN >_< too much sewing!!
I made some of the accessories for the other costumes as well (Kakuzu's head scarf and face mask, and Kisame's hat and "Samehada" sword), but everything else was made by the boys, with help from the group.
The whole project was lots of fun to do, albeit a bit stressful at the end
Our Hidan also had a side gig as Pein at FanExpo 2007

Awesome! Me and seven friends did the same thing for the last day of A-level earlier this year. We each had our jobs, such as one person doing all the cloaks for everyone, another did hairstyles on the day, another did weapons, I did the headbands... It didn't all turn out quite as well as this, especially with the cloaks and weapons, but it was still hilarious being Sasori for the day.

If I may ask, what would one wear underneath an Akatsuki coat if they wanted to accurately impersonate an Akatsuki member, but no member in particular??

Sorry I didn't see this comment for so long!
I did the mouths on Deidara's hands with felt. Red and white for the tongue and teeth, cut out and glued onto a black felt that had adhesive on the back of it. So all I had to do was stick the adhesive side onto my hands, and it would stay there all day.
There's probably lots of ways to do the mouth hands of Deidara, but this was a really cheap and easy solution that still looked really good (you can only see that its felt when your up close to my hands)

I never considered making another one, but I'd probably have to say no - for your sake, really, haha, because I'm in university right now so I definately wouldn't have time to make one until next spring, and I'm sure thats not what you're looking for. I'd probably charge about $80 if I did though, theres a lot of work put into the stitching of those clouds O___O

The best deidara cosplay I've seen so far, Hidan and Kakuzu are very good aswell. Not a big fan of the Kisame, Itachi and Sasori though. The difference between the other 3 is quite big

what kind of face paint did you use for kisame? i tried using some from wallmart but it was all flaky and chippd

sorry for the super late reply! Don't know if this is any use anymore, haha, and I don't remember the brand name but it was a good quality face paint that I got from an art supply store. But I've seen them in several art stores. They look like big cosmetic cases - big flat circles, like you might find foundation or blush in - except filled with wax-y face paint that you just apply with a wet paint brush/sponge

Can I ask you how you guys made your leg warmer? I am planning on cosplaying Kakuzu this coming year and tried making the leg wamers myself but failed T^T. Maybe you could help me, I really like how yours lookes.

It's really easy, and there's a few ways to do it. The key is fabric. I picked up an elasticised white fabric and made them tight so that when we put them on they held themselves up and didn't need another elastic at the top. Measure around the thickest part of your calf and how long you want it to be (take into acount that they go over the sandals too). When drew them out onto the fabric, I put it roughly exactly what I measured and drew in two little bits hanging from the bottom that I sewed together later to become the part that slips under the foot and sandal. After you cut it out, just pin it over your calf, pulling the fabric tight so you can find the right fit for yourself and then sew.

i got mine today... but it's too long.
i'm going to have to cut it, move one cloud further up, and then i'm going to have to put snap buttons on it as it has none.

i bought a cheap one. it's good material just needs a few tweaks. i'm also going to have to put tucks in it to give it a more feminine flair. i'm cosplaying as konan (the blue hair girl)

well if you can find a good quality wig, it should be alright. My Deidara wig is good quality, and its done me no wrong

just be careful - we've been using spray for Kisame, and it doens't look, lets say, accurate? I looks VERY much like hair spray thats blue >_< And his hair is short, so trying to do it on long, girls hair might not look so pretty and elegant.
If you really don't like wigs, I'd try finding the temporary, wash-out hair dye and try to convince your dad to let you wear it just for the day. It'll probably turn out the best looking. If not, my vote's still for the wig (we're going to try and get Kisame a wig for Anime North '08 in May
