Description This drawing is based on the song Die Seeräuber-Jenny, oder, Träume Eines Küchenmädchens. In English that would be Pirate Jenny, or the Dreams of a Kitchen Maid.

From Die Dreigroschenoper (The Three Penny Opera) by Brecht and Weill.

Great cross-hatching. The lines are regular and the shadows are pleasingly coherent.

"Pirate Jenny" is probably the best song, although the "Pimp's Ballad" is also quite lovely and amusing to sing. All the songs from "The Three penny opera" are fun to sing. It must be their catchiness.

Indeed.

A surprising song when you first hear it. More than a "torch song," it could be called a "scorched earth song."

I've always liked Nina Simone's cover the best, she sells the terror very well.

As we say in America, "wow."

If you think it's brilliant, then it must be pretty good.

It's excellent, like those books I use to read when I was little. Actually, it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland kind of illustrations.

how amazing of you ~ I have a copy of "Pictures at an Exhibition" on an old cassette, and my very favourite piece is "The Gnome" ~ it's such a descriptive piece of music I'm listening to it as I write this. You seem to know what I like ~ have we met before ... ?

Well please download them. It's my goal to liberate the LPs I've never seen available on CD. This is the start of the Toscanini project, Beethoven will be next.

Very nice! I like her arms, especially the left one for its bending
On the other hand, I would have erased the line between her nose and her cheek, because it makes her face less recognizable in the amount of thin lines shading. Her apron is so lovable, btw

Dr-Mabuse In reply to cabepfir [2008-04-28 23:55:51 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps you are right. I was trying to make her face deliberately "blank," but maybe I went too far.

Seriously, thanks for the critique.

Ohhh! Its the song of disgrutled public service workers everywhere! Ladies and gents I have new favorite song to sing at work! The picture is great it looks like she all pissed off and the ship in the bottle on the wall is a nice touch as well.

I love it! For some reason I'm in love with her arms... The whole picture has this wonderful sense of anticipation to it.

I promise I'll make a version of the song for you! I just want it to be amazing.

(This could also be a wonderful Cinderella illustration...)

Dr-Mabuse In reply to olivelovessnape [2008-04-27 15:58:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you like it. And I was hoping her arms would look grotesque and violent. A violent, self-empowered Cinderella.

I tried dragging my heals, I wanted yours to go first!
