Revamp of Gounabi .I was planning on submitting this before the new year, but I ended up working on it very late... My time was consumed having a discussion with my brother on appealing character designs, ironically enough. Not sure if I scored high enough for this design though. Still working on it...
Main focus was to make him more intimidating looking. Hopefully there will be more luck on his full-body design.
Well, this completes the series of faces for the major characters. I may do portraits of the minor ones as well, whenever I get the time...
Edit: My brother didn't like it and I had doubts about the design as well. Just made some adjustments and the design's looking a bit better.

Well, it's kinda hard to actually teach someone how to draw, especially over the Internet (trust me, I have tried), but if you are looking for specific help, here are some links to reference books and tutorials that might be able to help you out:
Drawing Human Anatomy
Drawing People: How to Portray the Clothed Figure
How to Draw Manga Tutorials
These are the only ones I can quickly come up with at the moment, but I'm sure you can find more resources if you do some digging on the net or at your local library.
On a related note, I can take a full-color full-body commission for $35 (or a character sheet for $50), if you want me to draw your character for you. Just PM me if you are interested.

Ok, I haven't commented on anything in well over a year and a half, at least, and since I'm finally leaving dA for good I pretty much decided I wouldn't leave a comment to anyone, not on dA.
But hell, these revamps are just so damn fine I can't resist posting my one last comment!
I couldn't help drooling a little when seeing this revamp of Gounabi. Just. So. BADASS~. Sure is some drastic enhancement to the original design... You strived for a more intimidating look, and I do believe you did a fantastic job at that. May I inquire what you've had in mind so far for the rest of his new design? Have you planned on sticking to a mostly fabric outfit, like in the original design, or have you now considered a more armor-clad appearance? Personally I feel he needs to be more armor-clad overall - that's the kind of impression I get when looking at this image. Just dark, harsh metal. I'm also interested to hear if you're going to change his weapon as well. Granted, I am not so sure myself if a wooden sword with a hidden blade would go that well along with his new look, unless the wooden sword's design itself underwent some severe modification as well.
Also, this style in which you drew all the revamp images with is just plain wonderful in my opinion. It's very comic book -like, with some sharp and even powerful lines, yet slightly sketchy due to the crosshatch shading technique.
You sure got me all pumped up to see new full-body versions of your characters with these pictures! Especially Gounabi's, since he has already gone through a lot of change in his appearance.
Keep up the wonderful work, Tim! And I'm also so very sorry I never seem to get around actually starting a conversation with you on MSN. I definitely should change that about myself, shouldn't be THAT hard! I'm way too silent on the damn thing. In any case, just know I'll be glad to give you my opinion on your artwork, if you feel like getting some. Just poke me in the ribs!

Awesome, I'm glad to hear from you again! And yes, it's been a while, heheh. Ah, I'm bummed that you have to go, but it's your decision, so you have every right to do so.
I'm glad you like it. When I have the time, I'll definitely make and post more material--and character sheets will be in the to-do list for sure. So soon a full-body study for this character will be made; I just need to make time for it. I apologize for it taking so long--I know I haven't been active much with my personal artwork as of late. Hopefully that will change once I get my schedule back on track.
As far as his overall design, he'll be pretty heavy metal. Lots of armor and a transforming cape he covers himself with when not in combat. He'll have some cloth areas for mobility and functionality's sake, but definitely a lot of armor. He will probably still have that wooden sword (which sheaths a metal blade inside), but it may change in design. He does have the ability to change the weapon with his dark magic though, so he can make alternate weapons temporarily for added awesome. I'm really aiming to make him uber intimidating, so hopefully I can pull it off.

Since I can't write a critique, I'll add and say that is an excellent use of animal features on the mask. Reminds me of a winged demon. I hope you take more animalistic features into consideration when you create the rest of his body armor.

Thanks, and that's totally the look I was going for. The previous one was lacking such, but I think I have a better idea of what direction I want to take his design now. Definitely, I'll see what I can do and hopefully it'll look fitting.
