Description
Final assignment for my Intermediate Animation class.The project's theme was to "choose your destiny". I chose to combine modeling and animation. I still need to practice texturing though--UV mapping this thing is going to be a pain...

Modeled in 3ds Max; rigged and animated in Maya; rendered in Maya using software renderer.

I think since it was a final project for class, we had about three weeks to work on it, maybe? So I worked on it on and off for about that long. I'm horrible at keeping track of time, heheh. A majority of the time was spent modeling and making sure it can do the transforming stuff without looking wonky with interpenetration and stuff. I barely did much texturing, since I didn't have a good knowledge of it at the time, so most of the coloring is made up of shaders. The rigging on it is horribly primitive, but I'm surprised it turned out well after it was animated--one of my favorite animations I've made so far actually. It took one day or two to animate and one to render, if I can remember correctly...

This is going to sound so lame, but I almost wanted to ask: "Did you do all of that by yourself?" Well of course you did. Wow, I am extremely impressed. You can make a video game!

Of course I did--it was for a school project, heheh. I hope to get into video games--but it'll look like I'll have to travel in order to do that, or maybe not. The only good video game developing company around my place is EA Sports, and they make sports games. I guess I can start off there, but it'll be a major restraint on imagination since realism is more of the style there. Anyway, I'm glad you like it and I thank you very much for your comment!

That is one impressive animation! You could almost make a fan-based Transformer movie out of this.
But in all seriousness, I am really stunned by how much work you've put into this, man. Love the angles of the video and the model is really well done.

It was the final for the class, so I had to go all out, heheh.
A lot of my classmates said that I should really go all out and make some kinda Transformer short. I still have yet to decide, since this semester I won't be taking any animation classes (mainly academics, right now), but I'll see what I can do when I start up on animation again.
