Description

I decided to do Inktober this year, so I made a personal drawing challenge to draw the Creatures of Grimm from RWBY from order of appearance for the month of October. Although my interest in RWBY is kinda waning, I wanted to do this challenge to practice my art skills. That, and it seems fitting for the spooky month.

Day 1: Undeveloped/Unevolved Beowolf (from Red Trailer)

To be honest, I think at this point "World of Remnant" is irrelevant/non-canon since they retconned that Beowolves don't develop into the common form we see them in the series because the Volume 4 premiere has them just pop up evolved with spikes and armor. I still personally consider it canon that the creatures Ruby Rose fights in the Red Trailer are Beowolves that haven't evolved yet. It just makes sense to me since Dr. Oobleck states in Volume 2 how Grimm evolve over time, but if it's canon that Salem just creates Grimm in their evolved form already then I'm fine with that too. This is my personal drawing challenge after all, and I wanted to include variants of Grimm.

Anyway, that's a lot of rambling for a very simple-looking drawing like this. I added the watermark even though this sketch isn't that great because, you know.

The date in the drawing is not a lie. I wanted to draw a day ahead in case I don't commit to the challenge or something happens for me to miss a day.

If being "unevolved" Was the reason they lacked armor we would have seen Red Trailer style beowolves being born in vol 4 premiere. The actual explanation is that Grimm as a whole are actually quite diverse with some individuals being born with less size and/or armor than average. We see other examples of this with Nevermores in vols 1 & 2 where we see individuals that are born smaller than average.

It's specifically said in the director's commentary for volume 2 that some individuals are born with less size and/or armor, even going as far to specifically state that's the explanation for the Red Trailer Beowolves and smaller Nevermores. I wouldn't make such a large statement without strong evidence.

Unfortunately, I haven't listened to the director's commentary yet so it's indeed an error on my part. It's not much of a strong statement I'm making as I've clarified it's just a simple personal interpretation of mine rather than fact. In other words, what I mention in the description is more of a headcanon if anything. I'm more of a casual fan of RWBY, so I'm prone to make mistakes about some facts of the show. Thanks for sharing this information and clarification though!
