This is my very first submission to Deviant Art.

Since my favourite holiday is coming and, frankly I love sugar skulls to death (heh!), I decided to make something related to it; which is to say it might be the first of many day-of-the-dead related graphics I make this season.

This is an offering of the mexican day of the dead. It focuses on an altar decorated with "Cempaxóchitl" orange petals (the holiday's flower--> Tagetes erecta, the Mexican marigold, also called Aztec marigold). On the table, a sugar skull with the name of the deceased, a lit candle to guide those souls that come for the offering and the holidays bread: "Pan de muertos" [bread of the dead]. As hanging decoration of the day of the dead, "papel picado" with different colors. A classic scene.

I used PSP CS4-extended, and made everything from scratch; though a couple of ideas on it are not entirely mine (the shape of the skull, since this is the very first skull I've ever made [link] and the pattern on the "papel picado" - both I recreated myself by looking at the example of other artists; but I can't remember where I saw the pattern >_<).

I had lots of fun and I'm really happy with the result
