Description Throughout time people have felt empowered throught the power of free speach. Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have A Dream" speach empowerd many african americas to rise against the unfairness of a white ruled society. While now a days it has allowed americans to protest homosexual men and women in service of the military. When it comes to freedom of speech I'm all for in up until a certain point. Freedom of speech can be a good and also a completely horrible idea.
"One voice may be silenced but that's all it takes to start a riot," or thats how the saying goes. Yet that is still very true, it indeed only takes one person to make people see what they were ignoring in the past. As Dr. King had shown many african americans back in the days of segregation. His voice encouraged many african americans even further then their already exhausted efforts and limits. Their result came many years later when in the society we have now black and white people can work together as equals. This is a great example of when free speech has been a great asset to american history.
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but your words will never hurt me," that saying is ridiculous. People think that just beacuse their words they can't hurt. Truth be told, words can hurt more than any punch thrown by Chuck Norris even. Like the protesters at the army men and women funerals protesting against homosexuals being able to serve actively in the army. There are some things that just cross the line that hurt more than any physical hurt could ever posess.
"If you aren't willing to die for it get the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary," as spoken the words of Malcolm X. He was also a public spokes figure in the war agains segrigation, much like Dr. King but only with a twist. He used his voice to enspire people like him to riot and lash out in hateful displays and acts of violance. Instead of helping his cause his efforts only futher shown that his people were diffrent and more willing to show so. In his efforts many african americans had hoses, dogs, and even fire arms turn on them.
These are facts, I suppose they could be opinioned on where they are good or bad, depending apon how you look at things. The freedom of speach was given to us by our Fore Fathers. Dispite what most people think, it is not a birth right. We musn't abuse this power given to us simply because we don't agree on someone's idea or opinon. This is why I say freedom of speach should be used but when it comes to hurting others to get what we want, we shouldn't abuse our rights. Find other ways to get your belives acrost, because one day all your actions will come back to haunt you.
