when Rafael said his brother's name for the first time, I personally felt my heart break into 50 pieces. I think it was because they only did a fake death for a few seconds that there was less emotion. I mean, most people who lose someone right in front of them, usually go into shock or need a few- hours to cope.

How would they know it was even a fake death in the first place? Would you be able to not scream or cry right away if you saw your dear mother/father/brother/boyfriend just throw themselves in your place into a lava pit?
I honestly find it hard to believe that three very different personalities would all react the same. Especially knowing how emotional Raphael is...

Honestly I'd be wondering where the hell that lava pit came from. I live on a very nice, mild tempered island, where did the lava come from, why am I on a volcano? Why did we go so close? This does not seem very safe or smart... and who I could have a girlfriend, I'm pan sexual. My sister is not in that ist of options too!
and true but the thing was literally seconds apart and they had to also worry about not getting squashed by the technodrome. I dunno, if they made the fake death longer then maybe I see where you're coming from but at the same time, I can't help but think how...awkward it would be to see raphael freaking/ screaming out, crying, and dony in shock and mikey doing...something to keep the peace for 4 seconds then leo being there and saying "I'm alive hahaha!"Β
he fake death was never meant to last long or fool anyone, so really there was no point on focusing on it too long, especially since to me, it feels like Leonardo was trying to kill himself throughout the entire episode! there were like three fake outs in that season finale! It actually annoyed me by the end of it.
And if it makes you feel better, we did GET THAT EMOTIONAL OUTBREAK IN SEASON TWO WITH SPLINTER. (Sorry caps)

It may have been possible that they were in shock or just couldn't believe it.
I'm pretty sure one of them said "I can't believe he's gone." sometimes when a person close to you dies shock is the first reaction and you don't want to believe it. Grieving comes later. Remember in the 2003 version when Leo was on the verge of Death in the shredder strikes back
Raph, Don and Mikey were all in shock and then they had to fight their way out of April's shop and then when they got to the farm house that was when they broke down, especially Raph....my heart broke at that.Β
Since Leo came back in like five seconds or so there was no time for them to go into the grieving process.Β
The stages of grief are
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
And acceptance.
They were in denial that Leo was 'Gone' if he had went missing or something for a few episodes then I'm pretty sure we'd have seen all the stages of grief.
Especially since it was so sudden, a sudden death of a loved one can leave you numb to feeling anything. One second they were here alive and well and another second they are gone.
If it's traumatic like that, then it is no doubt they were in shock/denial.
I don't even know anymore I'm just trying to input why I think they were not as sad as most people thought they should have been.

Yeah, they should at least have had Mikey going slightly insane and Raph screaming at Donnie! In the SAINW episode in the 2000-whenever show, not only was it dark and bleak as fuck, but they still grieved more! And dammit, MLP is girlier and sweeter than this, and yet their characters go bat shit fucking nuts all the damn time! What;s the big deal?!
