Lore i guess: Damian Wayne takes up the mantle of Nightwing after Dick Grayson moves on to Become the Second Batman,he is now the Leader of the Titans and has moved away form his sword to less lethal weaponry/fight style.
Design wise i wanted to keep some of the aspects of Damians Robin suits so that it would not just be Damian in Dicks suit.
