I've been trying to catch one of these butterflies for 3 years now...the other day I walked out the backdoor with my camera and this one just landed on the flower in front of me. Usually they flit around like they've just had a snort of something and never stay still for even a few seconds!

Ahah! A cabbage moth - made to look so beautiful. We used to have so many butterflies around when I was a child that we scorned these little creatures as common, but now, with so few, these are worth having.

So that's what it is...I don't know much about butterflies except for the monarchs. We have heaps of them around here during the warmer months and I love going out when it's really hot and watering my plants, as soon as I do heaps of them come around me to get a drink. We have a bore so we aren't yet tied by the water restrictions though I still use it sparingly. I live next to a conservation park so that's why we get so many butterflies.

Haven't see a monarch in many years. That's a lovely vision to think about...surrounded by butterflies. I once saw a cloud of them in Lamington National Park many years ago, just floating down a gorge. Don't know what they were but they were so huge and gorgeous.
