Well i looked all the steps but i post my comment on this last one, and it is really good, i like this dragon which seems to come through my screen, that is great, i like it so much!! Like you i think maybe no needs more in this image. I'm curious to see what will happen when you will stick all the gifs.

Hi James,
Could you please tell me how you are able to upload your gif previews to show animation in the thumbnails in your gallery. I've tried several times and methods but can't get the animations to show up and only end up with static images in thumbnails. Thank you so much any help in this would be greatly appreciated. I did end up with one animation showing but that's was accidental and I don't know how that happened. lol.

... You realize that you are forcing me to "think" ? ... .. . First... I need some coffee ... .. Ok! Coffee is making ... .. .
What I do is... ( using Gimp )... After I export my original xcf image as a gif... having checked the boxes for animation and loop ... I return to the original file change the image size to a max of 150 on the longest side ...go to file and click"Export as"... Change the name to indicate it is a preview image ... .. . ((( Make sure that the boxes for loop and animation are checked appropriately ))) ... you may not want to loop ... I have missed checking the animation box myself ... though with decreasing frequency ... I tend to forget stuff ... But once I find the right muscle memory track I'm OK ... .. . Don't forget to "Undo resize" of your original file .. or it may be teeny tiny forever ... done that too ... .. .
... .. I am a wordy old fart aren't I ? ... .. Summery : Check the Loop and Animation boxes in ( Export As ) ... .. .

Hi thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it so very much. I wish more people were wordy. lol. What I could not figure out is how to get the second smaller file of the gif to upload into the preview area of the larger file when uploading to the my DA gallery. Think I need a cup of that coffee also. Better go put on a pot

I have been using the Stash input thingy ... It gives me a chance to find some of my mistakes before I fully post... .. it has a place where you can change the preview image ... which you have to do by entering the smaller copy of your image... I guess that you need to change it from nothing to something that will fit ... .. . You can also change the Primary image ... which I have had to do from time to time ... .. . Because ... Having the ability to do Dumb stuff is of no use unless you occasionally use it ... .. .

I always tell myself that when they design these systems they Really Try to make them easy and logical to use ... but sometimes the logic uses a knowledge base that isn't universal ... .. . There are so many things that are "common knowledge"that isn't, that common knowledge can make up a secret language of its own ... .. .

You can say that again. I just got a windows 10 operating system and I hate it. It's suppose to be so user friendly. Not so. It was so much easier when I could go in fix things myself in the older operating systems.

I love your work.You know a lot about doing these gif animations. Plus it's really nice to have someone reply back with more than just two words. What file size are your gifs on average.?

Thank you !!! ... .. . Most of what I have been doing is under 10mb ... .. . I started out trying to make huge files ... and after crashing my computer several times, figured out that there were limits... so I started doing 10 frame gifs ... then 18... then 20... now 40 frames ... .. . this last one was a compilation of five 40 frame gifs so around 197 frames ... I lost some somewhere... .. . very mind numbing for me to put together... Lots of repetitive motion... which I don't do well at all... at all ... .. I still need to figure out the proper balance of frame number and image size and ppi ... .. . But that will require thought .. I think ... .. . but I guess I should figure out a standard formula so I can cut down on redundant grumpy comments ... .. .

Guess What. I finally got it and figured out what I was doing wrong lol. I was making the preview gif to large . It seems they can't be more than 130 pixels in length or height to be visible. It worked at 130 so did not try anything larger. I'm still just learning to do animations. The learning curve is higher than I anticipated because there is so much to take into consideration while making them.
Yours are so beautifully done and so intricate in their design it must take a lot of time and work to make them.

Great !!! ... .. .I think the size limit is 150 for the longest side .... .. . I found out with my last image the mb limit is 80mb for a gif ... .. . don't worry about complexity or balancing everything at once ... the most complex image is just a bunch of Very Simple things piled on top of each other... .. .The Journey IS the thing ... .. . Do the simple things till you Own Them ... .. . Then run wild with the infinite possibilities ... No one else can See the world as you do... and No One else can express it in their art as you can ... .. . and always remember you cannot make a mistake ... "Oops!" is the call to see unexpected possibilities... .. .

I think I'm cheating in making my gifs for upload to DA. I do the images in Corel graphic suit ,the original animated file in shock wave flash then convert them to gifs.
I tried to install gimp because I could not afford to upgrade Corel , but it didn't want to install correctly for some reason.
I have a digital group I started about 2 years ago. I had to leave DA for a year and gave it to my co-founder. I've taken it back as founder now. I have to admit it's pretty inactive at this point with only 86 members.
I'm trying to revive it. I was wondering if you might like to join as a member?
