My favorite Elder Dragon, the infamous Chameleos!
You thought the Gypceros was bad when it came to monster-based theft? Pshaw. Chameleos is on a whole different league. This guy loves snatching up your useful recovery items without a care in the world with its super long tongue. Say goodbye to your Max Potions and Well-done Steaks! If Gypceros were a petty burglar, Chameleos would be the leader of the Thieves Guild! LVL 100 Sneak, the ability to turn invisible, mastery over the ultimate destruction spells... waitaminute.
Chameleos has a pretty straightforward monster design. Slap some wings on a chameleon and there you have it. Simple, yet the execution was brilliantly done on Capcom's part in my opinion. One of the more unique Elder Dragon fights in the series, Chameleos behaves exactly like its little lizard counterpart with its twitchy movements and camouflage. Perhaps the oddest part of Chameleos is not its design, but the sounds it makes. What sound does a chameleon make you ask? It's elementary, my dear hunters! Obviously a chameleon crows like a rooster! I shit you not!
And as a last note, Chameleos' armor set is definitely one of my all-time favorites from the series. It's literally a wizard themed set complete with pointed hat! The skills aren't too shabby either, so they're both fashionable and practical! Just like magic!
P.S. Battle theme-wise however, Teostra's got Chameleos beat. Sorry Chameleos! The king's got a goodΒ rhythm going!

you know i've heard a few people say it's pretty cheap with poison fog, invisibility, and item stealing, but in generations, i actually had some very good fights against it. made a full armor set with an Insect Glaive and Dual Blades despite never cutting off it's tail. i just used a special anti-theft charm to keep it from stealing my stuff. it helped me beat Kushala enough for armor material

Heh Chammy's my favorite too. =w= Interestingly enough though, I wouldn't say he's just a chameleon with wings slapped on... (also my favorite animal incidentally, lol, so you could say I'd know) He also has a lot of elements of leaf-tailed geckos, like his feet (noticeably more paw-like and not the split-clawed foot like chameleons have) and the fanned-out part of his tail.Β
Please pardon the technicalities and corrections... =3= I just really like this guy's design lol. I like analyzing the elements, ehehe. Also when I finally fought him, I found it cool how actually birdlike his wings behave and move, heh. He's cool.
And incidentally, nice drawing as well! *w* Gotta love the lizard wizard jokes lol.

i actually read that, despite being based on a chameleon, their design and behavior is apparently more similar to geckos! the leaf-tailed one in particular, which is also neato
and the girl version of chameleos set turns you into a ninja xD or at least the helmet does, i havent seen the set put together because im too lazy to look it up and blame it on not wanting spoilers lmao

It says on the ecology that the Chameleos isn't actually an Elder Dragon. The guild merely put it on the list because of its shape (two wings, four legs), but unlike other Elder Dragons, its not overly aggressive, if aggressive at all. It's even sometimes seen drinking water next to Mosswine or Aptonoth. It will, however, attack if it feels threatened, but it isn't a walking natural disaster like the other Elder Dragons.
That is my speech. Oh, and same goes for Kirin as well. I know, it's sad I ruined your childhood, but the truth hurts...

Elder Dragons DON'T have to cause disasters wherever they go. The category itself is just a collection of powerful monsters that don't fit anywhere else, most of which have a quadrupedal stance with two wings. Chameleos may be "docile" as you put it, but it's still a powerful dragon nonetheless. If you're basing your fact off the Ecology section on the wiki, you gotta bear in mind this note:

Hmmm...if I were to make a FUSEmon based off of this guy, what do you think it'd be made of? My thoughts go to Shiny Kecleon, Mega Charizard Y and......some other third one...
Also, this thing looks totally crazy! Definitely wouldn't want to run into this in...anywhere, really...

Alas, official Shiny Kecleon isn't exactly purple.
But definitely Kecleon, Arbok (?), and maaaaybe Charizard. Last one could be swapped with another draconic Pokemon.

Dunno about the smoke, but I can attest that dat tail is pretty stupidly hard to cut ~x~ You basically have to whale on it the whole fight if you want a chance of popping it off before he dies lol. (fortunately you can still get them in quest rewards even if you miss out on it)

Yup. I've fought the Chameleos a few times since then, and the tail does take quite a while to cut off. Also, smoke bombs just seem to make him harder to see without actually keeping him visible.

One of the hardest tails to cut in the game. And they should, but it's kinda moot since no other monsters interfere in the battle. Environment's always Stable.

Well... I'm not sure. To effectively prevent it from turning invisible however, break the horn on top of its head. The tail additionally can only be cut when Chameleos' health is below a certain percentage (close to dying).

Heh, yep, Chameleos is pretty cool. Though that freaking mist breath annoys me FAR more than the item stealing; that stuff does WAY more damage than any sort of vapor short of pure literal acid should. Thank god for poison cancel skills, this fight would be nigh on impossible for me otherwise. Of course he's pretty much the only late game armor set I really use since I really, REALLY like poison, so at least the fights are worth it.

Yeah, I agree with you here. Chameleos has some absolutely genius equipment designs. His Bow is a magic wand with a spellbook in place of a quiver! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

Unfortunately, Β I have yet to reach this fight. I've wanted to!...I just never got around to getting done with the prerequisite quests, because I got stuck on Black Gravios and I can't grind Seltas Queen armor or weapons because it was basically a fluke that I beat it the first time ohmycodfish-

Magic, especially when you consider his Glaive and his Bow being based respectively on a sorcerer's staff and a spellbook. I love them! (though on the contrary of the glaive, the bow is less viable...
