MANTA Manta-type
Large mermaids who dwarf those below with an ominous shadow. They have a ghastly appearance that’s since given them the name, “devilfish.”

Despite the rumors, they’re actually really nice merfolk, always up for friendly banter about the sea. They often have several remora mermaids in tow, acting almost like their mothers in a way. How cute!

REMORA Remora-type
Small mermaids who can’t swim really fast. They hitch rides on other more larger sea organisms like larger mermaid subspecies.

In truth, they’re just here to get a free meal. Because they’re so darn cute, you just can’t refuse. “Can I brush your hair for a burger?”

AXOLOTL Axolotl-type
Shaped like a friend.
Note: Axolotl are not from the ocean.

GULPER Gulper-type
From the abyss comes those with darker intentions in mind. These gulper eel mermaids specialize in ritualistic magic that can cause a myriad of effects, often with risks to mental health. They’ve racked up quite an infamous reputation that’s caused most merfolk to associate them as “sea witches.”

Gulper eel mermaids tend to keep to themselves down below... until it’s mealtime. Their hair and tails act as lures, stray lights in the darkness. To those who let curiousity get the better of them... well, their fates are sealed.

... if you’re into this kinda thing, then I guess that’s a victory?

SEA BUNNY Sea Bunny-type
A small bottom feeder extraspecies, sea bunnies are soft-spoken denizens of the deep who share similar appearances to bunny girls on land. They tend to talk more with gestures and wiggling their ears around rather than use their own voices.

They also eat sponges. Yes.
