To this day, I still question what drove Nintendo to change Slippy's male voice in Assault back to his cringeworthy female voice in the recent games.

The Ballot was Made because a Lot of Fans Was Requesting Characters. Lucas was one of them and Made it in.
The Characters Are DLC So Buy it.
Now In Store there's Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy and Ryu From Street Fighter.

Because since they were trying to match up the voices with the original 64 game as close as possible, OF COURSE Slippy would have his female voice again. If they made another sequel to Command, he'd possibly have his male voice again.

Slippy would seem like the better choice from all the possible characters in Star Fox. After all, Smash 4 has been so far a very colorful and fun-looking game, someone like Wolf seems a bit kind of place now without the hyper realisitic graphics or overall serious tone, and Krystal doesn't seem like a very fun character to be honest.
Slippy brings color, fun, cuteness, a pletora of possible moves, a different body type and purpose on the team that separate him from the fighter-type body build of Fox and Falco and the cameo-rep thanks to the Snake codec calls.
