do you have any suggestions for vinyl paper? I tried the adhesive the michael carries (martha steward... ) and it's not working at all, not sticking at all to the glass

I purchase my vinyl online. (It's not Vinyl paper) You specifically want to look for Sandblast Vinyl or Sandblast Resist. It is available by the roll on sites like Amazon.

Where did you buy the etching cream though?

You can purchase it online (Amazon carries it) or at major craft stores. Michael's usually carries it, though not always the big jug.
