Description This is the 4th entry in my animal portrait series. This is based on a photo of a eastern newt I took in the wild (south east Ohio) in 2003. The adult form of this newt is dark green, the red eft stage is basically the adolescent stage where it is land going and has orangey dry-ish skin. When it becomes an adult it becomes aquatic and has moist skin like a frog and dark green with reddish spots. I have seen 3 or 4 red efts but only the adult form once, and that was when my camera was in the shop unfortunately.

This is an amphibian(think salamanders and frogs), not a lizard. So if you call "here leezard leezard", it won't respond because it will think you're talking to someone else.

Painting is 4.5x4.5" on illustration board in acrylics.

I love red efts! They're beautiful, and I once had the fortune of coming upon a place in a forest in western PA where they were, literally, everywhere!

Their adults forms are no less impressive, and you've done a wonderful job capturing their likeness.

Thanks! Yeah they are really cool, must have been impressive to see so many in one place.

My camera would have run out of memory space taking pictures!

It's pretty great that you have an interest in nature. Your artistic skill and that interest make a great combination.
