Description Hope this all makes sense, I'm not very good at explaining things Also theres probably millions of typos.

If something isn't clear in this leave me a comment and I'll try my best to explain it better for you.

The colour used in this is Winsor violet, gorgeous colour but I don't get to use it often so thats why I used it in this tut.

The textures took an evening to do and the writing took a few hours today.

Awesome tutorial!! Especially when you show the different techinques, with less or more water. Very clear and useful!

Very nice . It really shows all the basic textures! And that's good. Because usually when you ask an artist how he did this or that he won't tell and that's not like his author method or something! So big thumbs up for you!

Heya! Thanks for making this tutorial! I've been having problems with the salt technique too and thought it was the problem of the salt or paint types, but after reading this tutorial, guess I was pretty impatient all these while... >_<

Just a question... which masking fluid are you using? I've got myself a bottle and tried to do some splattering with it, but the liquid was pretty thick, producing big dots instead of the fine splattered ones. Do you add substances to the masking fluid, or was it the different brands around having different texture? (I was using 'Daler and Rowney', yellowy looking fluid...)

Heya, sorry its taken me a while to reply.

I used Winsor & Newton Colourless art masking fluid, and used an old toothbrush, dipped it in the fluid, shook off the excess and ran my finger along the bristles so it flicked off in fine blobs.

Hope this helps!

Ooooo.... Haha, I have yet to go on my art materials shopping trip so this really helps! Gonna go try that... Thanks for the reply!!

Awesome tutorial, you've nicely explained everything.
Just a quick question. What kind of salt do you use, like is it fine, table salt, or coarser? I can't seem to have any luck with salt, it never seems to turn out right.

DragonsDust In reply to LuxDani [2010-03-15 11:38:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I use regular table salt, experiment with how wet/dry the paper is until it works, thats what i did
