Description

Edit: Okay, I've learned more about this series since I've made this stamp. Yes, there is some stereotypes...how about I rephrase my comment: There is stereotypes, but they aren't meant to offend anyone or make any one nationality seem superior to another. It's just all in good fun.

I'm from America, and in Hetalia, he's personified as being very nosy...I'm willing to admit that our nation tends to interfere in other countries' affairs a bit too much.

I totally agree! I only recently got into this series, and while it's true there are stereotypes, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY, NOT OFFENSIVE. And hear me out: EVERY COUNTRY GETS MADE FUN OF IN THAT SERIES. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Even America didn't escape it And mind you, this is coming from a person who hates stereotypes, but I understand that in this series, it's supposed to be funny I also like to joke that every single American I've met was like Hetalia America XD

The dictionary definition of racist is showing or feeling discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or believing that a particular race is superior to another. All of the Hetalia characters are stereotypes but they aren't intended to make the countries they represent look bad and they're not trying to say how (x) country is better than (y) country. Each character is made fun of equally, and not in a derogatory way, more of a 'look at this nerd' way if you understand what I mean. I have shown Hetalia to friends from Germany, Italy, and Holland and they all agree that the series is not racist, it is a satirical series about stereotypes and history.

No, it's not.

Just because it contains stereotypes, it doesn't mean it's racist.

I agree. It is not racist. The personality of each character is supposed to be based off of stereotypes, their personalities are not
Based on the POV of what the creator thinks people in differents countries are like. They are based on stereotypes.
Although it is gonna be quite offensive to sensitive and patriotistic people.

People say this because they think their are no black characters. Fun fact: Seychelles I think is black and I think Cameroon is too.

But she's still not black skin like Cameroon. There's different skin colors also in Africa. I would myself think America would be Native American or mix. But no, he's white. (This wasn't racist.)

In anime Seychelles is Hispanic. Well, in anime things go differently than in manga. In anime China has dark brown hair, even though in manga his hair is black.

I'm Spanish... and character Spain is one of my favorites.
What I hate is how much the fandom portrays Spain as a bullfighter. Mainly because not everyone here is one. It's true that there are still in this country some people (by which, of course, I mean a considerable bunch) that still like bullfights (or corridas, if you prefer it)

Yeah, I guess you've a point; Hetalia is not racist. Stereotypes are bad, but instead of getting pissed about it, why don't laugh at them? It's what I do each time I see Spain portrayed as a bullfighter...

MarinKoi In reply to HispanicWitch [2015-09-02 21:15:55 +0000 UTC]

Yep Hetalia isn't racist, maybe a little stereotypical, but I guess it can't be helped when you're speaking about countries, not about every people.
Hehe sometimes the fandom can be more stereotypical than the Manga/anime series itself... the times a bull -that bull-  appeared in the series, it was to save/help spain anyway, like an animal friend (a funny friend by the way).
But of course some fandom jokes are fun, so, how you said, why don't laugh at them?

And anyway, if everything was just stereotypes, Switzerland would be always in traditional clothes dancing in the mountains while holding a cheese, a bit like in Japan's vision (oh god that was-).

(I'm from Brazil, a country with really bad stereotypes, and i believe that Hetalia might help some fans, even brazilians, to see Brazil (or any other contry) with others eyes...)

After all, Hetalia is a way of knowing cultures, knowing curious facts of history that are not always taught and meeting people from different countries and cultures! xD

Yes, I know, I like that part.  I'm not offended by it, I just find a little annoying to be looking for normal pictures about him and seeing him always dressed as a bullfighter. But wtv, it's fun anyway.

I don't know who thought that it was racist. Whoever thinks it's racist definitely needs to get a sense of humor.
And I agree. I'm Swedish and American, but America doesn't offend me at all. If anything, he makes the anime a lot more hilarious and fun to watch. He is actually how I got into Hetalia in the first place. Him and Japan XD

While they are stereotyped (which is kind of impossible to avoid if you're going for country personifications), they all have positive and negative qualities.

Feliciano is an idiotic cry baby, we can't lie.....but I FRUKING adore him!!
italians are often seen as lazy cowards, most people know it and there is no person who minds it, because we know it's not true. (Feli can even stand up for himself when he needs to, he's acautally pretty caring and smart)

So Hetalia is hated on for being "offensive," but South Park is perfectly fine? That's just messed up, and this is coming from a guy who's seen some of South Park and finds it funny at times.

South Park gets sued for their offensive content by pissed of celebrities. No one said it's fine. South Park is the most offensive show on television besides Family Guy.

Anyways, you are correct.  South Park is the most offensive show.
I don't know why I enjoy some of its humor, though.))
