Description As the black and white male husky stared in the eye of the halfbreed, he could see something in Balto's eyes that wasn't menacing, and it shocked him. Still shivering from he horrid cold outside and from the long trek to Nome, Balto remained unmoving, his tail slightly raised and his ears pushed back, his teeth showing slightly in means of keeping his chilled body from chattering his teeth. It was a wary sight, not to mention while Balto glared, other dogs stood behind him, watching, waiting, wanting to hear what the hero of Nome had to say to the traitor, the coward. All dogs remained silent, until Balto finally spoke. His words were breathy and slow, his voice deep, as to keep from succumbing to exhaustion.

"You would have had Rosie die, all the children die, so you could save your reputation... That's low... Even for you, Steele."

The husky gulped, his tail touching the wooden floor. He looked down, meekly trying to find a sentence. "I... I didn't... I couldn't... I..."

"Nothing you say can change what you are. You never cared for anyone else but yourself." With that said, and after Balto watched as the words sank into Steele's mind, he then turned away. Dripping wet from the melted snow and ice, the wolfdog now only wanted to return home, with Borris, and even the two bears Muk and Luk. Jenna would be fine staying with Rosie as the girl recovered from illness, and the other dogs would make it clear that they wanted nothing more to do with Steele as long as he remained who he was.

......................
I wanted to see a scene like this for some reason, instead of the happy sappy reunion with Balto and Jenna. I'm weird like that. I like serious scenes. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the way they portrayed the town as so happy that the medicine had arrived. But I would like to have seen Balto, after all happiness aside, began to feel so utterly exhausted and weak, but then remember that Steele had caused the town so much grief, he becomes enraged. But he doesn't just snap, but let's off with words for the husky to remember.

That's just me though.

Oh and it's a weird perspective. I wanted it to look like we were looking at the scene from slightly behind Balto, but I couldn't draw it properly. So I angled my camera.

Art by me.

I like Balto and Jenna happily reunited and the town praising Balto as a hero. But Steele got what was coming to him!
