RuGaard is the main character in "Dragon Outcast", the third book of EE Knights Age of Fire series.

RuGaard is a name given to him by the then dragon king, nicknamed Batty for his love of bats (whom actually saved him), and never named by his parents, he was simply known as the Cooper. The only advice his mother offered him was "To overcome". And so he does his entire cursed life.

He is a cripple from various battles in his life. His arm is maimed during the fight to claim the egg shelf moments after birth. His wing is damaged in a fight with the Dragonblade and rendered flightless until Rayg (his human slave) places a brace on his severed bones. His eye is damaged when his sister avenges what he did to their family. His foua, or fire, is nothing more than liquid with a fight with the Demon. His toe is bitten off in his first visit to the Lavadome and his tail is broken by Dwarves and heals unset and stiff.

But with all that, he survives, he overcomes all the challenges before him and makes friends in the right places. He rises to become Tyr, or king of all dragon kind, only to have everything he worked tirelessly for destroyed by his successor. As a curse, or a blessing, depending on how one looks at it, he is the only king to not be assassinated.

RuGaard is a very strong spirited dragon who...overcomes...all the hardships he faces. With that, I admire him, look up to him, and can related to his torment. He always being put down by the forces that surround him but he survives when anyone else would tear their own heart out. He is my favorite amongst all popular dragons. He is my favorite character amongst all, fantasy and real. He has to fight tooth and claw to even breath.
