Description Not sure when this song will be posted - hopefully before I leave on my mission, ha ha - but I did the painting for it today, so I wanted to post it.

The story behind this? When I was ten, I was a huge fan of the Redwall series. Still am. I will forever fondly remember Brian Jacques and his tales of that world, for they were the stories that made ME want to write and tell my own stores. It was thanks to the mice of Mossflower that I started telling my own tales. If you haven't read the Redwall series, do so. It's fantastic.

Anyway, one of the books, Pearls of Lutra, became noteworthy to me. That's because it had a song in it - like all the Redwall books, that were full of poetry meant to be songs. This song was at the very beginning, a short verse of a sea chanty that covered the plot of the story. Why was it of note to me? Because I found the song for it. It was my first time coming up with ANY sort of original music. I happened to find a tune that fit perfectly to the words and the feel of the song, at least I thought so, and I've always remembered that song.

And then, recently, I agreed with 4everefreebrony to collaborate on bringing that song to life, for real.

We haven't gotten far into the project yet, but I hope it'll be finished before I go. Because it's a song I hold dear to my heart, because of the stories it represents to me.

Anyhoo, with this picture. I intended it to be some sort of swirling-smoke-becomes-the-character look, but instead it sort of spiraled away from that. But I still really like how it turned out. Heh. XD I hope the song ends up epic enough to match it. I had a lot of fun making the painting.

It may very well end up the last painting I do for 2013. Sort of fitting, in a way. A call-back to before, to end off a year of going forward.

Yep.

Oh... Redwall was one of my favorite series growing up. Pearls of Lutra was my favorite of them all, though I don't remember why... I know that Grath Longfletch was one of my favorite characters ever.

I will SO look forward to this.

I saw this and went, Lutra?  Like, The Pearls of Lutra?  Naw, probably something unrelated.  But then it was and I was happy.

I loved the songs in Redwell when I was growing up too.  I had tunes for a few of them... I especially remember one from the Legend of Luke and one from Mariel of Redwall.  I look forward to hearing this.

I should do more fanart for the stories I love...ponies, cats and Pokemon are fine, but I also dearly love the abbey of Redwall, Totoro's forests, the sweeping plains of Rohan, the deserts of the Tygrine, etc etc...

My two favorites out of all his stories would have to be Rakkety Tam and High Rhulain. Because Scottish squirrels, and otters have always been my favorite of the Mossflower peoples. (And it was when I got my copy of High Rhulain, that I met Brian Jacques himself. )

Haha, oh yes I remember the accents quite well. Especially when I was trying to figure out how to read when the moles spoke.

I used to be quite fluent in both mole and hare.

Really? I always struggled when a mole happened to be a main character for that reason. XD

Oh my gosh, I remember Redwall! I'm still a big fan of it and I'm amazed that there are still people out there that love it!

I partially remember Pearls of Lutra, but personally my favorite books were The Long Patrol and Mariel of Redwall. Rabbits were my favorite animal at the time, and how can you not love freaking Russa Nodrey and Tammo and all of the regiment they joined? Corporeal Rubbadub, man!

Either way, I love the artwork and I definitely want to check out the song for it once it's completed!
