Description
The Old Norse poem Hávamál relates of Odin’s self-sacrifice. He was wounded by a spear and hung nine nights in a tree (presumably Yggdrasil, the world tree). While hanging there he learned the secrets of the runes. I shaped Yggdrasil in the form of a valknut (death knot), a symbol associated with Odin.
