WELCOME TO THE FIRST MASS EXPORT OF DRAKEHEST

may the gods be in your favor

This was the most painful art auction to judge in the history of art auctions. There were tears. There was bargaining, there was denial, there was acceptance, and there were heart wrenching pains. In the end, there is only the one horse, there can only be one owner. As a person who has put her heart and soul into art auctions only to see another bid win, I reach out to the runner-ups and applaud your efforts. Please do not be discouraged, please congratulate your fellow artists and be proud of the magnificent bid you created. We tried to be as fair and honest as we were able to be in judging, and should anyone have questions or concerns we are happy to talk to you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for entering.

I am going through and commenting on everyone's bids but have to leave the computer at the moment, so if you haven't received a comment yet, be expecting one!

Didn't the original Journal say the art auctions were being judged against the gallery? because one of my friends told me it was mentioned that it was against one another instead.

The prices are ridiculous.....

& I bet art auctions will all go to the better / more popular artists because the beginners art like mine is never viewed at as effort (even if hours or days or weeks put into image) when it comes to these kinds of things.....

Some people have can afford to spend extra money on things they really want. That doesn't make them any better or worse than anyone else. They've either lucked out and are in a good place financially, or they've worked hard to scrounge up some resemblance of a budget that they can use however they want. Can I afford spending $300 or whatever on a Drake? No. That's because I'm saving that money to spend on something that's more important to me that will cost an upwards of $700. It's on a snake, by the way, which some people would scoff at because why would I "waste" my money on something so gross? Fun fact. I love snakes, and I'm willing to drop that much because it gets me exactly what I want, and I have future plans for it. That doesn't make make me better than the person who can only shell out $20. I work minimum wage. If I want something bad enough, I make it happen. Chances are it won't be an immediate gratification, but I'm not going to let a low paying job or a weak bank account stop me from working toward my wants.

As for art auctions, the sole purpose of them is to make you push yourself. You want to compete against the "popular" artists? Then you need to prove to yourself that you can push the limits of your talent. Make yourself better. How else are you supposed to improve--like all of the "better" and "more popular" artists--if you don't practice and push yourself? I'm by no means a great artist and I'm sure as hell not popular or well known, yet I've won art auctions in the past, including a starter mutation Nordanner, because I sat down and tried harder to produce something that's just a modicum better than my norm.

So don't be discouraged by art auctions. Think of them as a personal challenge, and if you don't win, it just gives you a purpose to try harder so that you do win next time. Don't make other people that you think are better than you be your own obstacle. If you keep going with that sort of attitude that you have no chances because someone more popular might enter, then congratulations. You've just subjected yourself to your own loss. Try your best, push yourself, ask for help with redlines and opinions, and if you don't get what you want, don't be a poor sport about it. Learn from it. Do what it takes to make yourself as good as you want to be. That's how the "popular" artists got to where they are, after all.

(sorry this is so late )

I can understand that some people somehow have the cash to throw around on 'pixel ponies'  It just seems a bit unfair that the rich can have the nice fancy ones and the poor can only have the plain designs (that you get get for like 10 points or free from almost any other breed)
I work a minimum wage job that can only offer 2 (sometimes 3) hour shifts to me so leaves me in a position where I only have about 20 dollars to live on for the week - which with how expensive it is to get the basics to survive, there isn't any room for savings when you have to go without food for a couple of days in the week just to make it to the next pay check.
I understand working towards my wants... I do, but no matter how hard I try I just CAN'T get anywheere - even after 10 years of working and it's frustrating :/

A snake is a really cool thing to be saving for! I am a an of snakes myself and wanted one when I was little.
What kind/s of snakes are you thinking of buying?

Even when push myself for art auctions there is like a... wall where you can't really add or do anything else to a picture.
I sketch/draw every day but this improving thing just doesn't seem to be a thing that happens for me
The only way to win art auctions is to be the only entry so you win by default

The prices are ridiculous..... why do most the bid start at 50 REAL money - I don't even earn that much in a day of work let alone have it spare for a prety pixel pony.... Kind of unfair huh?

DrakehestCouncil In reply to DreamDrifter91 [2016-06-01 20:30:52 +0000 UTC]

Astralseed is correct. Only 6 horses started at $50, the rest started at 100
$50 is what I am willing to sell them for. Under $50 and I would rather keep them for myself. Hope that clears things up!
