National Day Rehearsal fireworks, Singapore

Fireworks in Singapore is a common affair as the nation celebrates its independence day in August. In preparation for this grand celebration, many rehearsals are scheduled. This includes all performing acts as well as my favourite, the fireworks display.

Even though it's common, it does not stop the nation from going crazy as many photographers and public scramble for compositions to frame the pyrotechnics leading some to wait for more than 5 hours at highly sought after locations just to secure a space.

This composition is one of those spots and I was there at 4pm to get this space. Believe it or not, I was not the first one there but luckily photographers in Singapore are friendly enough to share the spaces so that everyone may enjoy the show.

Processing wise, I tried some new techniques to deal with firework smoke. I intentionally left the low level pyrotechnics with 50% of the smoke to create some realism though. Overall, this image set took about 15 hours as I had to defish the image and my initial approach proved very unsuccessful.
