Description Yup. Blackjack again.

Fished out my diddy no.1 sable brush and got Sterghios to help me unscrew my indian ink and white ink bottles (hey, I've got a bad wrist ) and had my very first go at using a brush to do inking ('cos I usually always use pens). Don't like the right hand but for some reason I really like how the rest came out.

Nice big wings...

Heheh, yes. Good for fighting with too (if a swan wing can break human bones, imagine what wings this size can do!).

I think you said somewhere that he can decapitate someone only with those curved claws at the top.

He can. Or gut, or otherwise generally mutilate. Wings are precious though so he's careful about choosing the right moment to use them.

lol, yup. If we got scientific about it most fantasy stuff really wouldn't work so best to ignore sensible things like anatomical issues and physiological impossibilities

haha, for some reason, from reading your comics [great stuff btw!] He reminded me of a steam roller.... with wings, horns and an axe lol

anyways, good work on this one! [I know it's not new, but everyone needs a comment on older art once in a while, no?]

Hey thanks That reminds me I've a bunch of pages I need to get lettering on!

XD That's probably a fair comparison

lol, that's true. It's nice to know every now and again someone looks past your recent deviations.

I hear ya, I use a Fabercastle brush pen, and love the thing, no mess, no dipping

drakhenliche In reply to QuestingRaven [2006-08-16 11:29:26 +0000 UTC]

Is that the brush from the Pitt range? I have that one but tend only to use it for solid black shading because for some reason if I actually try to do linework with it my pictures turn out looking really cak-handed and naff Which is odd since you'd think it'd offer more control than a brush.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QuestingRaven In reply to drakhenliche [2006-08-23 11:53:15 +0000 UTC]

Oddly enough, yes it is. I've found that a very delicate hand gives the brush more grace, and it's taken a bit of practice, but I still preffer these to the aspect of inking with a brush ... four small children help make that descision, as it's far to easy for little hands to get ahold of bottles of indellible ink LOL

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

drakhenliche In reply to QuestingRaven [2006-08-24 19:43:49 +0000 UTC]

lol, though I score a zero in the children department I'm still getting a clear (and messy) mental image of why brush pens are preferable for you The trouble with trying to be delicate with a brush pen is 'cos the point's stiffer than a normal brush, the tremour I usually get in my arm really shows up which put me off getting much practice in.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QuestingRaven In reply to drakhenliche [2006-08-26 15:08:52 +0000 UTC]

I can see why that would make inking with a brush pen pragmatic at best.

Love those giant wings. The figure looks great, especially for something that you used an unfamiliar technique on. Looks like concept art for a movie. Well done.

Ta!
I maybe lied a little - I've used brush ink for colouring and filling in large areas of black so I'd a little prior experience. However doing the actual linework with them was a new (and somewhat stressful) thing for me. I'm liking the technique though! I've a half-baked idea of redrawing an old comic I drew using the technique though I really ought to finish my current one first (me? easily sidetracked? ).

Tomoran In reply to drakhenliche [2006-08-05 01:10:02 +0000 UTC]

LOL. Well, regardless, it looks really good. Now, get to finishing your current comic before you begin a new one!

*coughs* I failed at doing that. My current one's awaiting the finishing touches but I went and redrew an old 5-page effort over the weekend in brush ink and airbrush - I had a bit of a bee in my bonnet about it.

I try my best to reply to all comments - I think if someone's taken the time to comment on a picture of mine then the least I can say is a quick thank you Alas I don't always get the time to reply to everyone, but I never pick and choose according to someone's talent - that's just snobbery!
On that note - you've some cool stuff in your gallery
