Description My version of the dragon that guarded the Golden Fleece.

There's some things I could fix/tidy up but really, this picture's been on my easel for about 18 months and I'm done with looking at it!

Water mixable oil paints (paynes grey and titanium white) on approx 14x10 inch canvas board.

In 'Jason and the Argonauts' maybe - there's also some versions of the myth suggest a 'serpent'. The dragon option's just as viable.

This actually inspired me to do my newest art project in oil paints. I love it!

Sorry for the late reply. It went awesome! I think I have the final picture uploaded here...at least I think it's the final one. I love oil paints now haha.

There's not a whole lot to say about this, other than how awesome it is and that I love the shading, and I like how you designed the dragon's face. x3 Man seeing stuff like this makes me really unhappy with my own traditional painting skills, but that's my fault since I never practice.

One question though: What is that white fluffy thing on its neck? I'm assuming from your description it's either a sheep, or its fleece.

Thank you! I love painting on canvas.. though it also endlessly frustrates me since I can't ever seem to quite get the detail I want and have to go with whatever the brush wants to do.
Yeah, practice is the way to go - I bought a load of cheap, crappy canvases from a discount store a while back and made a mess on them. A little time consuming but definitely paid off. Next I need to branch out a bit more from payne's grey monotones

That's the Golden Fleece, as per the Greek myth. I've not painted/drawn anything sheep like before so it did turn out to be a bit of a blob!

Thank you They take so much longer than anything else I work with, but I don't think anything else would give quite the same effect.

Your painting abilities are awe inspiring! I really love how the moon and fire really seems to cast a ghostly light on everything. I'm sure you hear it a lot but great job!

Thank you! I spent a long time trying to get the lighting right (including repainting bits several times) so thanks for remarking on it.

Totally kickasstic ... but if this bad boy was guarding the fleece, I don't think that kid Jason would have had a snowball's chance in a very very hot place

Thank ye
If he were to try and saw through this one's neck like in one of the versions of the story, Jason would've needed some pretty heavy-duty machinery methinks!

How are youuu my dear

drakhenliche In reply to Little-kaiyou-Kame [2009-11-13 15:47:42 +0000 UTC]

heheh, yeah I wouldn't want to meet this dragon either... the painting looks better than this photo of it - I find it hard to get my paintings photographed right but this is the closest I could manage.
And I'm good thanks Not had a whole lot of time to get drawing of late, but otherwise all's well! How about you?

Little-kaiyou-Kame In reply to drakhenliche [2009-11-16 07:10:41 +0000 UTC]

HEyy~ Yea you're right! Traditional paintings always face this problem of how to put it onto the computer... I always find it hard especially if the painting is larger than the scanner lol. Then I'll take a photo and my silly shadow will be there haha!
Are you studying lately or working now? I'm back in Singapore now, I've just graduated. So far away from you now~! Lately I've been working too and also preparing for some major conventions coming up this end of year ^^ There's one up just this weekend! so im quite busy for that

Wow, you will never stop to amaze me. At first, I tought it was digital, but is all traditional . To work with two colors what surely a hard task, but you successed.I particullary like the details on the dragon head, and the sky with this dark moon.Very nice interpretation of the mythical tale of Jason and the Golden Fleece. I like so much your art!
