I can answer her question about what she is: she's a Lamia. A Lamia is a mythical creature named from Queen Lamia from Greek Mythology, which I think was cursed into a creature with the body of a beautiful woman from the waist up and the long tail of a snake from the waist down. They are fairly common in fantasy culture in general such as RPG's like the Final Fantasy series. I think in the Mythos, Lamia was a seductress, so most Lamias exhibit magic centering around Charms and such. They are sometimes called Nagas due to a confusion with another fantasy serpentine creature, although Nagas are sometimes portrayed as giant, monstrous snakes with a humanoid face. I am such a nerd.
Also, her family are douchebags and she must have strong arms to be able to swim without legs. And remember, you can change the world, WITH SCIENCE!
