Bathyal Ocean Celebration - RESULTS

Follows During/After:

As much as it rotted Dave's  insides, taking a small hiatus from looming over his son  was good, not only for his back, but also for both parties involved. Unbeknownst to many, Dave always took his problems up the chain of command straight to Helena . While she encouraged him to try using the matter between his ears, sometimes he let the heart do all the thinking. She had tried to set him straight with the REINS program, encouraging him to work alongside Chris. She ignored the first few texts from Chris grumbling over his father being "himself". But now with Kate  in the picture, and Dave crawling into bed like a wet kitten, it was clear the man failed miserably. He had started off with all the vigor and might he could muster! But it finally became clear to Dave that he just wasn't needed anymore. And the only person that broke their own heart from the realization was Dave.
If the silly horse business was what would take his mind off his pathetic woes, that was what Helena pushed him to do. Perhaps with one of the equally silly equestrian acquaintances since he seemed keen to leech onto company with the "loss" of his son. And with that idea planted in his head, it was Dave that approached Jennie with his far fetched idea to participate in a sort of team event, not specifically a relay but something of the sort with another staff member - fully aware that one Mr. Jarin Jackson was very unavailable, being away at some kind of camp retreat.
Jennie, tasked with the role to find a match, knew just the person that needed some spotlight time too. One that would look good carrying the stable's colors. She didn't say it was Dave looking for a spot to be filled. No, she worded it more like, "Hey, I need you to fill a spot on a team with Dave for a show. Thanks!"

"Well, well, Mr. Ennerstone, we meet up once again!" Dave greeted Tristan  with a chipper smile. "Seems on the same team for once. How riveting." Last time they had the opportunity on the same grounds, they carried flashy team colors that suited neither one of them. Trying times, those were. Long gone was Dave's brown tack and Tristan's vibrant blue coat.
"A relief and perhaps a wonder, to see you've come in one piece. I had heard your student, er-" if he could be called that, "has been a bit of a handful lately. I surely did think I had him straightened out. But, ah well, we all know what my track record with the youth is," he chuckled pitifully, straightening the collar of his polo shirt. As far as word got around about Jarin, there were many stories told - some in his favor and some not so much. For now, it seemed Tristan played a minor role in what was becoming quite the fiasco with RidgeRunner's main western trainer now sat in Texas for a spell.
“Indeed, it’s good to see you again, Dave.” Tristan returned the greeting with a friendly nod. In truth, after the whole debacle with Jarin he would be lying if he said he was not eager to go out to a show where he could just get his head down and work. He gave a slightly lopsided smile, “I’ve heard some occasional stories… but Jarin.” He hesitated for a moment, cocking his head to the side for a moment while he considered his words. “He has had a rather tough time  recently. Sydney  did rather a number on him, and I fear my influence hasn’t had too positive of an impact either.” Tristan gave a weak laugh, still attempting to keep the mood up at least. “So, a team event?” He decided to take the initiative to change the subject “not the kind of place you’re found too often.”
"Ahh, yes," Dave felt a similar kind of humility. When best of intentions didn't line up with the reality that followed. "It does seem that way." He cleared his throat quietly, as they were headed to the course to get a look at the layout. Dave wasn't a man of many secrets but he maybe didn't want to completely spill the beans that he was the one that requested it. But the man was 40 years old. Hardly the age to be making excuses and hiding from his feelings anymore.
“Actually,” he hesitated for a moment, “I think I’m quite eager to ride with someone that doesn’t want to send me to my early grave. Well, so long as I turn a blind eye to your influential riding tastes…” He grinned coyly. He stopped, looking over the course ahead of them, not interested to go much further. Walking through the deep beach sand was cumbersome. At least the temperature was tolerable and not sweltering.
“The facts are plain. Christopher has a girlfriend,” he groaned like his entire soul seeped out of his lungs. “And I’d rather watch you throw your flashy horses over a fence like a hooligan than- speaking of,” he pointed at a combo jump, “You are not cutting that line, don’t even think about it.” He snapped right back to what he was saying, “And it’s a refreshing gesture to be a part of something. Don’t you think, Mr. Ennerstone? After all, you are here,” he smiled.
Tristan gave a wry grin, arching an eyebrow. “I see… I would have thought you’d be happy for him? But who am I to question.” He chuckled, shaking his head. “It means I get to teach you how to ride, old man,” he teased, eyeing the line that he pointed out. “Come on, it’s not that difficult… I’d be more concerned about that line,” he gestured to a tricky oxer on the other side of the ring with a smirk before he glanced back to Dave. “Well… I suppose you are right. If I’m being honest though, I just wanted some space…” he sighed, his shoulders dropping a little. “After the whole Jarin fiasco, and my ex before that. This is certainly refreshing… speaking of which you’d better not be intending to slowpoke your way around this course, I’ve seen you these days, and if we’re going to stand half a chance you’d better get your quicker boots on.”
Dave nodded, not completely empathetic for Tristan’s circumstance. Dave only had one relationship in his entire life and that was to his wife. But he could imagine the disturbance in one’s heart breaking off one relationship only to stumble into one that came attached to another with a whole grocery list of problems. Dave didn’t have the full story on it but he knew enough that there were too many hands in the fire all at once: Tristan, Jarin, Sydney, Sydney’s wife… It was hard to say where the fault fell and who carried the most in a situation like that.
He clamped a hand on Tristan’s shoulder, somber for a moment, “I am truly sorry for the troubles you have endured. Mr. Jackson is proven indestructible by all accounts. I have no worries that he will bounce right back into the saddle, metaphorically and quite literally. And your tenacity to strive forward is also just as admirable.” He patted his shoulder again, lightening up, “So, even if I’m a tad on the rusty side, I can count on you to disregard any sensible plan of course and make up for the loss of time. After all, I’m just learning to ride, am I not?”
Tristan gave a slight chuckle, placing his hand atop Dave’s for a moment and looking at him appreciatively. Dave might be an annoying old man for at least 50% of his existence, but his wisdom was useful. He was right… Jarin would bounce back and when he came back, he and Tristan could talk and see what it was that Jarin wanted and see if Tristan could fulfil that. For now, however, they had a show to run. He gave a soft laugh, “Of course, I’ll make up for your rookie errors.” He removed his hand from Dave’s, picking himself up. “Now let’s get a move on, I know how long it takes you to get across the showground.”
Followed by an aging man's grumbles...

It has been a hot minute since I ran an entry down to the day it's due :''D I usually plan a whole lot better but life and all that, bad impulsive decisions on my part as well, bad discipline ~ But I also know when to put my head down, whip my ass into gear, and get my art done that I set out to finish >:"") So it may be a little hurried along but that's the lesson I backpacked - if I slack off, I won't finish how I could have. Better planning in the future <''3

Where have my stable's star riders been? Ta-da~ On the beach doing some team exercises xD
1) I wanted to show Dave's not dead. He's just been typical boo-hoo Dave but trying to better himself
2) I also wanted to visit Tristan's perspective after his fling with Jarin, Jarin and Sydney crumbling to pieces, and now Jarin's gone for a while. A lot of whiplash for Tristan. So who better than smooshing him with the man that uncontrollably "fathers" anyone in reach.
3) DETTI <33
4) KNIGHT <3333

And now they ride off into the sunset~
