They weren't orphaned because their family gave them up. They were orphaned because they were stolen from their family. They were stolen from their family because their existence brought into question what many thought to be factual about the Jedi and Sith orders and knowledge of the force. Such a danger it was to the powers that be that certain Jedi and Sith banded together to hunt and assasinate her sister Sok' Anon when she had re-discovered the truth. Aruni' Ka was one of those assassins sent to kill her sister.

Not really sure. I like to have back stories for my art, and when I came up with some of the ideas it was before Disney retconned the Star Wars history, but after George Lucas retconned the force. If that makes sense?
