Description

Imade this reference many years ago, I was very young and naΓ―ve to terminology, I definitely meant no offence what-so-ever, but I do realise this is in fact, very offensive. I plan on re-making this reference, both for quality reasons and for better wording. Please understand-thank you c:

All images in this... "meme" are not owned by me.
This is used for art purposes ONLY, it is not meant to discriminate against any body type, attatch stereo types or differentiate from "beautiful" and "ugly" that being said I am fully aware that I used some negative terminology in this, I madee it years ago and meant no offence at all-and will most likely be making a new one.

As most artist will tell you, drawing the perfect body can become boring after a while. While some artists have figure classes at their disposal, most of the rest have to search the internet for good reference.
I was on the look out myself, and fortunatly found this! Since this is obviously an art site, there are a lot of drawing guides for the figure, but this is the first time I've ever seen a combination photo reference. Now you can see the simpified levels easily, and can skip the hours of searching, and just use this one great reference.

I'm number 4 (so I'm curvy). As for guys, I'm not attracted to beer bellies, overweight guys, chubby guys or ripped guys. I'm not too fond of anorexic on either side and I don't think people should become anorexic. I like guys that are skinny, athletic or muscular. Femaine and average are pretty cute too. It just depends on how he treats the girls.

I think it's mor eunderstantable with this vocabulary... Maybe you should combine the right terminology with the language of average people? Eg. by character sheets I usually see the vocabulary you used in this version of the chart...

Umm, really?? anorexia is NOT a body type. It is a serious eating disorder!?

Being super skinny doesn't mean anorexic. And being anorexic doesn't mean super skinny.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

VixenDra In reply to BlueSSunshinee [2014-02-06 11:25:40 +0000 UTC]

But still, people usually call it anorexic... those names used in this chart are easier to get for average people (because people often use them) and for non-natives of English than special, medical/scientific/artistic terms... Ask and average if they understand what endomorphic means... and still, there is a too wide range of body shapes in this term which is too general. It's obvious there are more body shapes than 3...
I think this chart is helpful, even if uses this kind of vocabulary, actually, when most of people create characters, they use such words to call their character's 'body type' I would just switch the names fat and overweight, and change fat into obese

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueSSunshinee In reply to VixenDra [2014-02-09 03:37:53 +0000 UTC]

And maybe that's exactly the problem? Anorexia is a serious disease, honestly it is so ignorant to call it a body type.

You don't need to you use special terms just to replace one word. You can easily replace it with another word that actually means a body type and not the name of the disease.

And if non-native speakers are looking at something like this than that's even better that it doesn't use anorexic as a body type so they don't get the wrong idea.

Instead just brushing it off 'because everyone uses it' we should start educating people on these diseases. Is it so hard to understand anorexic is not a body type?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VixenDra In reply to BlueSSunshinee [2014-02-09 12:47:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually I doubt there are many people(not counting children of course) who don't know what anorexia is...
So which word would you suggest then? Which will describe the most extreme underweight and fit your expectations?

you know, I'm not a native of English myself... I understand very well what anorexia is... and in my country people often use an adj. 'anorektyczny' ('anorexic') to define how sb looks like, while we're not really assuming one has an anorexia by saying that. The association is just too strong... and the chart doesn't change anything in my way of thinking, my idea of anorexia remains the same: it'a mental illnes of sb who constantly and obsessively believes they're too fat, they nearly stop eating, mostly get characteristical extreme underweight untill sb notices their problem and the person gets the treatment, some die if it's too late. More or less. But it's undenayable that their look is characteristic if the disorder is already in anΒ  advanced stage...
You're right that educating people should be tried out, but some people need such words to understand the idea better, human brain often, to understand sth, uses associations to compare the ideas and get the idea of a new term... I said somewhere else, that a sollution may be in using both: the right terminology and the simple one for those who need them to understand the right terms... the most important is that the person will get sth from the chart, if the chart will be too perfect, it might become useless to those who need it the most.

BlueSSunshinee In reply to VixenDra [2014-02-11 06:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Anorexia may be known, but that doesn't mean it's understood. And it is still very generalized and such.. I still think that to ignore the problem won't help at all but whatever.

Bony could easily be used instead and still be completely understood ( if not better ). Or if for whatever reason that doesn't work, again, it's not so impossibly hard as you make it out to be to find another ( more suitable ) word.

And again. Not asking for perfect terms. But rather terms that are not offensive.

Either way, this debate is pointless, the creator realizes that it could be offensive ( though just to clarify I don't believe that he was at fault just naive, as they said themself ), and really all this over one offensive and misused word that can easily be switched out?

Actually... I was just looking through the comments and didn't see a single person complain about the word fat being used and several complain about anorexic.

So I don't really see where your getting the problems from?? XD

Expression of speech, not meant to really kill a person as it seems. Its just if you are very big take into consideration of the people around you and instead of picking up a size 0 take up the XXL you really need. I can't stand to see people wearing clothes to small for them. Its an unhealthy mind set, just wear what fits you!

I'm afraid they don't make such things for most obese people, at least not for affordable prices and not in each area of the world...
You, sadly, lack of any kind of empathy or at least some moderation from speaking in a rude, hurtful way(happens, so you should try to work on that, especially while you're using your motherlanguage, like above...)... everyone has right to go swimming, sunbathing and to wear very little on the beach and reduce their feeling of hot as much as possible without being completely nacked(unless it's a special place for being nude)... Try to not look at them, if they disturb you so much, when you notice someone like this, try to turn back or change the place on the beach instead of staring at them and getting so upset... they have a lot of problems without getting offended... This will be beneficial to everyone: yourself, them and people around you.
