Sexy naga woman indeed. Although her eyes look rather foreboding.

My pleasure entirely! I'd never heard of a Naga until I watched Monster Rancher, an old anime from my childhood again, the other night. And until I saw this image, I didn't know they were actual Β mythical creatures! It really is a beautiful piece!

Oh wow, that's really neat! I honestly don't know when or how I found out about naga', but this was my first time painting one!Β
Hahaa this painting is so old now it looks awful to me XD even more reason to paint another naga! XD

I hope you do draw another naga! I've quickly grown fond of them! And you make them look so cute!Β

It's different, I mean if you look at your old work you're like "ugh, that was so bad" but if you look an an artists work who is less experienced then that old work you don't like, it's a different reaction, you see potential, room to improve and great points-rather then "ugh that's terrible" lol, unless you're a rotten person I suppose XD
I hope so too! I doubt I'll have time on my own, and even if I did I'd dedicate it to other things, so all I can do is hope for a commission!

Oh, please don't talk to me about commissions. xD With my hasty nature, I'd probably just request a commission right now, straight up but I've had a VERY LONG AND TERRIBLE history with commissions. I've probably requested somewhere around fifty commissions in total during my four years on DA and I've only ever seen one which, was a short story and that was only because the woman who did it felt sorry for me because of my bad experiences. The rest of them, the artists agreed and said it'd be done in a few days or so and then went dark and never said anything. Others I even PAID FOR and then never heard from the artists again.Β
I've never been sure why this only seems to happen to me while others seem to get them with no trouble, butΒ I've since been trying to force myselfΒ to just forget about commissions and that if I want and deserve to see something, I need to get good enough to draw it myself. But I've just always wanted to see one of my OCs or something I've envisioned drawn by another artist.Β
Anyway, I hope your commissions go well for you.

Wow that's awful! Holy wow, I've heard of bad situations, but I haven't ever heard of someone having THAT sort of luck! Next time I'd recommend checking the artist out more maybe? I mean I hate to use myself as an example, but my gallery is full of commissions, so there's a pretty good chance that someone with a similar gallery will follow through.
Especially since I rely on commissions to live, if I don't deliver, I could be out of a job!
Also check out Aritsts Beware on Livejournal, if your artist is posted there, I'd refrain from commissioning them. If they aren't there and they ripped you off, post em! Don't let the same thing happen to someone else!
Also, in case there was a misunderstanding, I didn't necessarily mean a commission of a naga from you, just inΒ general haha ^^

Oh, I know that, it's just how hasty I can be at times. Always the first to volunteer for something. It sometimes gets me into trouble though, to be honest. xD
Oh, I've never heard of this Livejournal. It's certainly a good thing to have something like that on here. And yes, don't forget I've had a pretty long history with commissions and I've progressively learned a lot, and I do pick my artists carefully. I mean, sometime during the summer of 2013 I found an artist who I found evidence on that indicated she'd been doing it for years, she even told me so herself, and that she does commissions for a living, like you. I had come across her art a while beforehand and had been following her for months.
I did also look through her gallery and she has a lot of work, most of which are commissions but although our deal was made and I paid her the $25 she asked for during the summer of last year, I'm still waiting and by this point I'm having to squeeze responses from her just to get excuses.
I really believed in her but I'm actually starting to lose faith now.Β
I guess I can't really blame anyone but myself. It's only my own fault I'm too trusting for my own good. I just keep trusting people I've never met. Every time, I think 'I feel good about this one. Maybe they're different' but it's always the same story. But I'm trying to stop myself now, I've promised myself that this is my last attempt to get a commission from someone. I just hope I hold myself to my promise...

That upsets me greatly, I hate it when people ruin things for others, I mean you don't get art anymore because you're blaming yourself, and other artists don't get to work on your wonderful characters (I'm sure money is involved in there somewhere too)
*frustrated*

I was upset for a time, even felt sick at one point from being conned out of my money but I've gotten over it now. I just try to forget about it all. It is all really a sad and vicious circle though, which I can never come out of on top.
Thank you though, for saying my characters are wonderful. Wonderful might be a bit of a strong word for my characters though.
(And no, there is no money involved in my characters. They come entirely from my mind.)Β
π: 0 β©: 1
DrawWithLaura In reply to Roadkill-Sarny [2014-01-04 21:18:53 +0000 UTC]
No I mean money as in the artist getting paid, and you spending it on something well worth it hehe.
Every character is wonderful in it's own sense, some more then others, but wonderful non-the-less.
Eh I'd maybe suggest stepping out of your comfort zone a little bit here and there, maybe get a small commission from one or two artists at a time (rather then commissioning a ton of them) but, you know best of course, if you don't want any anymore, it's completely understandable.

I...THINK I understand you there now.>< You'll have to forgive me, I'm blonde. xD
I think part of me respectfully disagrees with you there. I mean, just look at My Little Pony! xD
Sorry if you're an MLP fan.
What, you mean just send out a bunch of commissions and see what happens?
...Maybe I will. IF I'm still not ready to give up.
(Oh, I've just realized I started a long conversation. I AM sorry. I don't mean to ramble but my story sometimes just comes out when commissions come up.><)

Lolol I do watch the show, but I wouldn't call myself a fan or anything, also regardless of me liking it, the character development is pretty good, the backstories, personalities and diversity is nice-and the designs are good for what's it needs to do, which is be great to animate and appeal to children/young adults. Personally, Lauren Faust (the woman who re-made MLP recently) did an excellent job with rebooting the show, because In my opinion-the old one was awful.
Well I mean commission one or two artists at a time rather then many, it'd be easier for you to keep track of, and in the case that they DID scam you, you'd be out a few bucks rather then however much those 50 commissions were worth XD
No worries, it's an old deviation so it doesn't matter much c:

I never even knew there was a show in the old days. I just thought it was a range of toys. I've only watched one episode of the new one right after I found myself in something of an argument with a Bronie but decided against punishing myself anymore. I respect other peoples' opinions but personally, I just don't see the point spending o much time watching that when you could be watching something well worth it like Sonic Underground, Monster Rancher or Shinzo. (Fantastic TV shows from the 90s)
Hmm, I...actually feel more lost now. I'm afraid you've confused me. ><

Well of course, it's all up to opnion hahaa, don't need to like MLP or anything XD but for what it tried to achieve, MLP did very well for itself c:
Erm, I don't know how to say it differently. You commission an artist right? Well don't commission too many individual artists at one point in time.
Commission one artist, and don't commission any more until the art is finishedΒ for the first one.
But again, that's just my opinion, there's a lot to gain from commissioning artists and it's sad to see another art enthusiast shy-ed away because of irresponsible artists.

I've no idea what it tried to or did accomplish but I just don't understand grownups who'd become a fan of something like that, especially guys. But again, everyone to their own. But now I think about it...maybe I'M a weirdo for NOT liking things like this because my dad exposed me to things like Thrill Kill and Mortal Kombat when I was little?...I don't know.
Oh, I understand what you're saying but I'm just not sure what it would accomplish as opposed to what I'm doing now is all... Β

DrawWithLaura In reply to Roadkill-Sarny [2014-01-04 23:12:33 +0000 UTC]
Hahaa for some it's easier to understand a woman being more manly, then it is for people to understand a guy being more feminine XD But in reality, most guys really aren't what society classifies as "manly" (IE; no emotions/crying/feeling, butch, strong, tall, doesn't think anything's cute/doesn't like cute things, ect, ect)
Oh, well it's true that may still not work, but regardless, commissioning less artists would be easier for you to keep track of, and if it didn't work out you'd be out less money then if you commissioned many.
Although it's the artists responsibility to update the client, sometimes the client needs to get on the artists butt and make sure they work, so if you only had one artist to worry about it'd be easier :>

Well, I am often considered a complete girl because I love cute things...and fashion. But on first impressions, people have actually found me scary or intimidating because of the way I dress, a bit of muscle on my arms from a bit of physical exercise and an ugly scar under my eye from an unfortunate mishap when I was a child. Shows you how misleading appearances can be. xD
But that's what I've always done. I've never had more than one commission deal in progress at any one time.
I know, I suddenly sound even more useless. Can't even handle that right. ><

And by the way, thank you. For listening, and for all the advice. I really appreciate it.

Well it does happen to lots of people unfortunately :c
I wih people didn't take advantage of others if the situation arises, it's a really awful thing to do :c
Only other thing I could suggest is, get a refund from paypal. I think they have a 30-60 day guarantee (you'll have to double check) make sure when you commission the artist that you say "hey, it's happened before, so if I don't hear from you, or get the final image then I'm going to open a dispute on Paypal and get refunded"
No problem at all c:

Roadkill-Sarny In reply to DrawWithLaura [2014-01-05 23:55:09 +0000 UTC]
That IS unfortunate, and rather upsetting.
Yeah, I think I'll try that in the future. And yeah, I am always upfront about my past experiences with commissions when discussing it with an artist. That was when the the artist I'm currently dealing with said something like 'you don't have to worry about that from me, I've been doing this for a long time'.
I probably will just forget about commissions from now on though and try and avoid them. If I want to see something, I'll work to make it happen myself!
I've only just realized, think I should do away with art trades too because people seem to be doing the same thing there. I've got two or three different art trades that I've completed my side of whereas the other artist seems to have disappeared...I must have a big arrow above my head that reads 'easy target'.
Oh well...
