Within the native culture are many people that have been chosen to carry wisdom and sacred teachings. Many of which are referred to as "Medicine Men" or "Shamans." These people carry a great deal of responsibility within the culture. They help people identify problems on many different levels, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. This painting displays a Shaman who is praying and calling upon positive influences, that he can be of better assistance to those whom seek his guidance. The wolves represent humility, love, communication and earth wisdom. The eagle, a carrier and messenger of prayer. The chief in the sky, represents spiritual guidance. These people keep the circle of faith and spirituality strong among the people, represented by the dreamcatcher. Within the rocks at the lower left are roots as well as the profiles of a man and woman that represent the "Grandmothers and Grandfathers" of the culture. It is a consistent teaching in the native culture to honor our relations as well as have respect for our elders. It's also reminded that we need to remember our cultural roots to be more aware of our overall personal identity.
