What I'm trying to do is create a working ref, and eventually an animation of both walk/run as well as fly/swim.
I'm having the most problem with muscular attachments. pterosaurs help a lot, but I'm still at a loss, since he is supposed to be able to run on land with a mutated horse-like gait. Though I was considering a squirrel gait... since he's very light.
I also can't get the wrinkled snarl on his face right, or his feet .___. help with getting a working stance would be amazing! thanks to anyone who helps, I'm just getting so frustrated with it, even though I just Love Merrick to pieces ><;;

It looks awesome Lazzy. I hope you don't mind if I put my two cents in.
In my opinion, for his gait, you may want to try a bat like gait more than mutant horse... like this [link] (or google bat running) since your character looks very avian like. Perhaps take in consideration a bats anatomy as well as Protobird. For the stance in a snarl try giving more emphases on his stance... more defensive and aggressive like this [link]
Just some thoughts... it looks great as it is so far.

ohh, those are great suggestions, zonkey!! <33 I'm gonna go see if I can find a bat run *in video form* to see how it looks. And that's a great snarl sample as well. I need to go on a hunt for some more reference like that in different angles. Thank you <33 *hugz* I'm going to go and sketch some samples using refs like this. <333
