fresher college-age look I haven't updated this ref with yet:

updated to make him a tad more interesting, because I saw some stuff that would work nice on him, and he deserves it |'D

oh! his ref! is FINALLY REDONE !!!
the old ones were both, very ungood to look at,, even when I kept poking at them tryna fix them up at all lol, but I kept putting this redo off since his design is simple enough that the old ones sufficed while I gave refs to peeps who had none yet (or whose refs needed updates more pressingly haha)

... he's also simple enough that this is legit one of the quickest refs I've ever done, like boom done in a day rather than sittin in my wips folders for months on end as I poke at em on and off xD
his design is wayy less complex than most of my others because he is one of my first bebs, my first centaur I met back in like 2013 or something, doodled in grade 11 astronomy class lol, so he's a bit more of a "generic" lookin centaur dude than my newer lads

he's very dear to me, having been a very close stand-in friend in lonelier times - him and oliver are also the ones who sort of helped kickstart my world (even if their story started off waY different in a more traditional old timey fantasy setting, which evolved into the current world when I pictured chester living close to me in this day, and expanded when jay and zodiac showed up, furthering that it is in fact just modern day urban stuff, and they all live kinda close in a similar area of ontario, and went to school with chester). I still have some of the original writings on my drive but like they're kind of weird to read now haha

anyway he is very good and very dear (even if I draw him less than some and his story progresses much less than others I spend more time on these days) <3

Chester Charlie Brooke is one of the kindest, warmest souls you'll ever meet; empathy is his strongest trait and he can talk to just about anyone about anything, and loves doing it. he never holds grudges and really just wants to help fix everyone's problems, leading to him becoming a registered social worker/therapist to make the most of this :3c

he also gives great hugs ♥

• he met oliver a few months before graduation, when he was 16 and oli a year younger, when he took a different route than usual for his daily run, spotted a curious head watching him from the water, so approached and coaxed a conversation from the shy boy, and the two felt a spark which ignited into a passionate flame almost immediately. they've been together for a few years now and are as in love as day one~

they spend most of their time near or in the freshwater oliver primarily calls home, just talking for hours on end, and when it's time for chester to immerse himself in secondary schooling they keep in touch daily through oliver's "shellphone" (hardy waterproof satellite smartphones that work underwater and float if dropped)

• they had a few things to work through, namely oli's anxieties (he had to overcome some unwanted jealousy, his unease for chester's absence should he pursue schooling, some other personal things), but chester is very patient and oli very determined to improve, and they naturally kinda meld together and always smooth any rough things over right quick
(there's another little thing they went through very early on, a story I've never finished and maybe never will, but there's the summary if'n's ya wants it)

• chester took a year off of school to just work his job at a hardware store while he figured out what he wanted to do with his life. despite knowing that it would mean far less time together, oli's the one who suggested becoming a counselor or therapist - using the same natural skills he shared to help oliver sift through some personal anxieties to help many more people in the world. this clicks, and by the following september he's enrolled in the same school as his bestie, jamie :'>
he still comes back to visit as often as he can, and the promise that chester will soon be making enough to start saving for their dream house also helps keep them going haha

• said dream house becomes a reality in the future, which is a custom single-level lakehouse with canals running from the lake to the home with all rooms equally accessible to both, doors to prevent fish and other unwelcome critters from getting in, not too far from chester's workplace

• he can also afford a special charm for oli to wear that allows mermaids to 'swim' through the air as though on land, about five feet off the ground, and keeps their skin moist and protected from the sun, so they can hang out more frequently and in other places as well (there is magic in the world, it's just way more toned down and 'nerfed' than in most series)

• jamie and him have been close knit ever since they were tiny wee foals on gangly legs. they feel much like brothers, and even when apart still message and call nearly daily, as well as playing many online games together

• chester looovesss kids, so when jamie and adira have babs, chester immediately becomes "uncle chester" and babysits a lot for 'em (oli helps too as best he can)

• he has a sister, mom, dad, and dog (the one he's holding up there ^ as a puppy, macy, who's a golden retriever/german shepherd/probably something else mix), who he loves to go for daily runs with

• being both queer and christian makes him feel like a "link between worlds", sort of. thankfully his church and fam are very liberal (more common for non-human species) and he doesn't really have to deal with mean folk very often
